.... after an age of dithering about i've actually bought a trials bike. i think i said when i joined this forum that i wanted to keep it cheap and cheerful and that's what i've done. its a 1999 montesa, road registered with 10 months tax and mot, i did the deal without seeing the bike but was well chuffed after my 2 hour drive to find it is in excellent condition, period, nevermind for the year. had a quick blast round the garden when i got home and was surprised at how light it feels, can't wait to get out for a proper practice. anyway, a pretty good day apart from been pulled by the gestapo and slapped with a 30 quid fine for no seat belt!

Hey guys, sorry if this has been posted before (or if this is in the wrong section) but I've just noticed that Julien Dupont's DVD 'Ride the World' is now available to buy from TartyBikes. It previously only been available direct from France and depending on exchange rates was about

So for guys that ride a LOT... like 100+ hours a season; how often are you replacing the bike, either with something new or newer? I realize this is a little more complicated that just the bike, as there's budget to consider. But I'm still curious... It's probably worth noting that I ride at an intermediate level. Which is to say there's a fair amount of crashing and banging into immovable objects involved. Obviously if you're riding at a level where this isn't the case, the bike's bound to last longer.

I'm after a modern trials bike to ride with my son when he's practicing at our local club. I've just sold my Beamish that I had owned and ridden for two years, but I have never competed. But I'm hoping to change that. People I've spoken to have recommended I go for a 250 as they're much easier on the inexperienced but I'm unsure wether to go with beta or gasgas, and then there's the jotagas. I'd ideally like to spend around the £2000, but could go a bit higher for the right bike. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms, but your advice would be much appreciated.

  12. Hi i have just purchased a 014 beta evo 250 as my first bike as a newbie to the sport, the previous owner has taken off the flywheel weight but has given it to me in a bag of spares with the bike. As a complete novice to trials do i need to put it back on or is it better to learn without it? What is the benefit of having the weight installed? the former owner was a very experienced trials rider so i want to make sure i am not going to have trouble by leaving it off Any advice will be greatly received as this is all new to me Thanks Andy

Looking at purchasing a new rear tyre. I’m new to trials and have realised the bike I’m riding has a tube fitted in the Michelin rear x11 tyre. It’s rounded it edges and looks like it’s previou been turned round but i’ve still got quite a bit of tread. I’m really struggling to get grip on wet ground. Would a fresh tyre make a big difference? Was looking at Pirelli tyres as they’re a lot cheaper (MT 43 ) are they ok or should i pay a bit more for a Michelin. Thanks

Hi folks. I was looking for some advice please. I used to ride trials when I was younger and plan on getting back into it. I was looking at the beta evo 200 and wondered what the thoughts were in comparison to the 250? I would be spending am extra 1k for the 200 and I'm not sure if it is worth the extra?

Hi, Have any of you out there got one of those gold fren brake bleaders in the manual form? Are they any good? Or is it just as good and cheaper to blead from the caliper up with a large syringe? Many thanks sean
