General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by tahoebrian5,

Hi trials central, I'm starting research to decide which bike to buy. I owned an 09 gas gas 280 eco but I sold it about six months ago. It was my first ever trials bike and I decided after riding it for a bit that I want something newer and maybe lighter. So I'm a novice, no hopping about on the back wheel anytime soon. Im wanting something smooth and easy to ride, and also something light weight as much as possible. I think I like the suspension to have a bit of snap to it.. At least more so than the gg. It seemed really dead and even after putting a new shock in I could never get it to feel snappy. I don't know, maybe that's not desirable , what do I know?! I'm thinki…

  2. Only started recently but bought 2 bikes inside 2 days by, erm accident, or overexcitment, or moon phasing. Have a Beta 08 Rev3, and GG TXT250 14. I love the GG for its power and handling, the Beta is good in a different way, but its age doesn't help. The GG is a 2 kick bike minimum but the Beta is a Swine. I'm keeping it to get others interested but I have to start it for them. 3" long lever on the left! Who thought that was a good idea? My Beta dirtbike on the other hand doesn't have a kickstart XTrainer button only) . And its brilliant. On a Trials bike, ride to next section. Stop bike. Walk section often on hill. Walk back. Kick kick, pant …

Hi all, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to Trials but I used to race motocross for a few years in my teens so I can ride a bike. I have always wanted a Trials bike and after a ride on a friends bike, I have decided to buy one. A second hand bike from year 2000 on would suit me and my budget I think, but the question is, which one? I weigh 85kg and am 5'10" if thats relevant... Many thanks for your help, Chris

Hi everyone, I'm new to trials (and trials central), i'd mostly like something to hop about on at the weekends but also fancy the odd club trial. I'd like something that can give me all the help I can get! I'm 6ft 3in, big fella with a budget to around

I have got my lad a lovely Whitehawk TY80. I have a few road bikes but I fancy getting something to follow him around on. I also like classic bikes. I have had a bit of a google and at the moment I am erring towards a TY250, preferably with V5 so I could also use it to commute the 10 miles to work when the roads are dodgy. I also love the look of old Bultacos though. Any recommendations?

Hi, I am a rookie and am starting to look for a trials bike. I want a latish model bike. In Australia we can choose from Beta, Scorpa and Sherco....bikes like Montesa, Gas Gas are rare here. I am leaning toward a Scorpa SY250 with the option to put the Longride tank on.....but I am keen to hear what you guys think is a good bike from a build quality and reliability point of view. (I will maintain and tune it myself). Cheers. J.

Hello all Looking to get a trials bike to give me more ride opportunities. I've located an 01 Sherco 2.5, 01 & 02 Scorpa's, and a Gasser TXT280 Pro. All in good condition. All for around the same dollars plus or minus a few hundred. Don't know enough about any of them to make a decision. Some are from private parties, others from dealers. I'm stuck in Analysis Paralysis Heard the GG pro's have some clutch Trans issues. I've heard Scorpa's are reliable with the yamaha eng. And they really look industrial too. Any help would be welcome!

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I could get any opinions on the sherco 250 and 125 around the 08 model as opposed to the beta rev3 250 and 125 or vise versa. At the moment I have a 2001 Beta rev3 250, would there be a big enough difference to consider buying newer bike? Cheers Brad

Hi, i'm a newbie to this site but been riding for more years than I care to remember. Have ridden sports bikes and now going back to dirt as more fun. So My question is simple and very subjective but would appreciate all contributions: Which bike? Lost track of manufacturers and spec in this area. My only steer on this I would prefer 4 stroke as never been much into oil/ petrol mix and will be using it more for hill climbs, some trails etc so something with some go in it. Many thanks.

Hi Everyone. I had convinced myself that I wanted a Montesa 2001+. There seem to be fewer of these about though. Everything on E bay seems to be in the North. Which 250 would be good for me, coming back to trials after a very long (30 years) lay off. A guy from the forum gave me some good advice about the Montesa, and he had one for sale which I have to say tempts me.. I need to free my garage up by selling a car which currently lives in there. I was told that the Beats could be a handful, have they calmed them down in the 21st Century, could I calm it down with lower gearing and a slow throttle? I heard that second hand Gas gas can be trouble, from a build quality po…

I know this topic has been beat to death.I just got a new pair of Novogars, comfortable from the first ride. The Alpinestars I just tossed were not comfy until they were worn out beyond repair. The straps on the novos are long enough to fit around my fat calfs unlike the alpines which needed longer straps.I am pleased so far with the Novogars.Any out there with long term thoughts on the Novos?

How do you decide which course you should enter? I entered the Novice (red in Kent) route for my first trial scoring in the low 100's for the 44 sections The coarse was safe, do-able and to me challenging, but fun, so is being last a reason to drop down a class?
