looking at getting a new bike around xmas time i only ride for fun will have around 3 grand to spend after some advice whether to get 08 beta rev 3 or a 05/06 montesa 4rt im currently riding a o6 rev 3 which i enjoy but cant make my mind up whether to make the jump to 4 stroke i think they may suit my riding style any advice welcome thanks in advance

Hi again all, I have come to all to ask for a small amount of guidance, I recently picked up a 1987 Suzuki TS50X as a winter run around in anticipation of the icy/snowy weather. It was rather battered but after a large delivery from Wemoto it is a good little bike except for the running of the engine. It will start from cold after a couple of kicks on about a quarter throttle, it will then run for a minute (not revving over 6 or 7k happily) with choke on or off then it will die. It will then only start on full throttle bump starting and will run for less or no time. I have been playing around with jetting and float heights but i cant seem to make any noticeable changes…

I ride in BC and spend time climbing logging roads even when I'm on a trials bike.... I've been told that 4 strokes are better at not overheating on long climbs, what kind of experiences do you guys have? I used to ride a GG280 and it would overheat after about 5 minutes in 5th, sometimes 1 minute! I really don't want a seat, I love trials bikes! Thanks in advance for any experience you guys can offer.

For you bike gurus that have ridden or owned both the 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes which do you prefer and why? Currently Riding a Cota 300rr but looking to trade it in and try a 2 stroke TRS 300 Raga for this year. Biggest drawback is going from injection back to a carb but shouldn't be too big of an issue it i get it jetted right. Whats the power comparison on the 2 stroke vs 4? I know with snowmobiles you need almost twice the horsepower in a 4 stroke to get the same performance as a 2 stroke. Plus the weight savings is nice on the TRS. Thoughts?

As title suggests Im wondering from experience some of use have had from riding both 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes what use think the advantages and disadvantages of both are. is one more user friendly , cheaper to run etc etc.

As title really, do you know if/how the oil is effected by the fuel when mixed? Will both have a reduced lifespan/effectiveness?? I know petrol (unmixed) has a limited lifespan, and bottled oil has one too (the latter being many years, the former can be counted in weeks), but don't know what happens chemically to either component when they are mixed ...

First, some back story- are you sitting comfortably? Nov '20 I try my first trials bike, a 1971 Bultaco Sherpa 250. It feels really natural, tractable and I decide to get my own bike. Lockdown happens (again) so I don't really start riding until April, but I get a 2001 Gasgas TXT. Love it, but it's tired & needs TLC, so I go newer. Next up is a '13 Sherco ST300. It has a few mechanical niggles but when it works, it's good. I ride through the summer and autumn of this year. But now it's winter and OMG this is a different game. Looks like most factories are gently dropping the 200's. None in the Beta catalogue this year and the Sherco is an user fitted upgrade. Only leaves the Gas Gas.

Hi guys/gals, I know that sounds like a bit of a daft question, but read on. I am enjoying playing on my bike (2001 321 gas gas ) two or three times a week, which for an oldish bike in the hands of a novice is already begining to show with bangs and bruises (on both of us ) So I was thinking about getting a second/spare bike to ease my bikes suffering a little. I have seen a couple of similer bikes (one is the same model and year) and was gong to grab one when I began wondering if maybe a move to a newer model bike might be a consideration. At first I hadnt thought it wouldn't make much difference (being a beginner) but now I'm wondering if a lighter more nimble…

Me again guys. I'm after removing the swingarm off my 2001 Gasser. Anyone know what size the nut is that holds the swingarm spindle in? Looks like 22mm but my 22mm sockets won't go in the hole. Cheers in advance. Dave.

Just about to start rebuilding my 2001 GasGas TXT 249. It has been sat in a shed for 10 years so need quite a bit of work. First job is going to be the brakes. Both calipers are Hebo and sticking so not working right. I believe that neither the caliper of the repair kits are available. Any solutions? Cheers. Dave.

As previously posted, I have recently returned to trials after a big lay off, and was never up to much of a standard due to just mucking about on the farm as a kid and not entering trials. BUT it is now all systems go and I am full of beans and enthusiasm to really have a go at getting a lot of practice in to improve and enter trials. I currently own the Scorpa and I am enjoying it. But.... I have the option of getting an immaculate 2006 Sherco 290 for a good price. I have ridden a 2005 Sherco 290 a few times and it feels good. Is the 290 going to prove to be a bit of a handfull? or is that scare mongering from some quarters? Help! Your comments would be much ap…

I got a Fantic Section a few weeks ago and the bike is not bad but needs work first it was the engine now the clutch is bad. It,s just waiting what will go next and i need something more reliable for next year so i have been looking around for something newer/better. Found a Sherco 2.9 and a Montesa 315 both 2002 and about the same price. What bike would you buy and why ? Tia,

Hi Last time I was out on my txt 300 noticed some smoke coming from below tank, had a look and most wires for the fan were melted and charred. On Futher inspection I saw the thermostat module/rectifier/ regulator (saw it called a few things had basically melted . Are there any specific causes for this or should I just start replacing parts. Thanks in advance just looking for some knowledge.

Hi You have probably heard this before but my 2003 txt pro 300 is starting, running and riding ok but every now and again usually at the wrong moment the throttle sticks, a quick blip of the throttle usually clears it. The cable doesn't seem to be snagging on anything, only thing I have noticed is I took the slide out and it is worn an both corners of the rounded side. Will this be causing the sticky throttle. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas.

Hello all, im just about to hand over 1100 pounds for a 2004 beta 250. I was just wondering if anybody else has an opinion if its a fair price. it needs the master cylinder brake seals renewed but apart from that runs exellent and starts first time. no rattles. cheers grant

I Had a great weekend and thought I would pass along a recap. I bought a new bike. That is a pretty rare occurrence for me, and a great deal of thought went into the selection. I thought some of it might be useful to others who are considering a new bike. Since 2001, I have been riding a 2000 GasGas TXT 280, which I inherited from my son. He (we) acquired that bike through a partial sponsorship and then lost interest after one season on the bike. The TXT ( now known as the 'Edition") model was and still is a great bike. I ride in the STRA (southeastern US) region and off the top of my head, I would guess that about 45% of the members ride GasGas. Probably 30% ride Sherco…

Hey guys, so i am looking to get into trials, this will be my first trials bike for actually doing trials. (i have a ty80 i learnt on some years ago, went to ride mx but not too good at it, so want to start trials) The GG is $3500 AUD and the Rev 3 is $3300 AUD. Which would be better for a learner and as a first trials bike? Knowing me it'll take a beating the bike, as i'll be dropping it throwing it around trying to learn things!! So which is a better bike and easier to get parts for? Also do you think the GG is over priced, and if i do buy should i try to haggle him down? ~Elias
