Thought I`d better say hello , and give some very brief history. Names Liam Never rode Trials properly, used to have a TY250 when I was 19....a few years ago, 37 now. Decided to buy another bike...got a gas gas 280....and...oh my don`t they pull well and how the hell do you guys manage to do the things you do and make it look so easy. Anyway got a few simple questions, with the influx of lovely baseball cap wearing lads riding motoX on the streets.....its seems the police have took a major dislike to anything thats not on the road. With that in mind, where can people practice without fear of arrest (based in Stoke-on-Trent) And what do you have to do/have to take pa…

Hi folks, another newbie, sort of, after several years with a BSA B40 Otter I gave up riding for a couple of years. I recently returned to the sport and bought a Greeves TES250, a lovely bike and the 3rd scottish I have owned. I have a small problem with jetting on the 626 Amal fitted, to get it to run long enough to warm up and keep running at idle involves holding the tickler down almost constantly. Anyone help me with main jet size, pilot jet size and needle jet/needle settings? As a matter of interest, are there ANY trials being run in S E England, it seems very quiet on the Pre-65 front in the eastern centre. T A F N, Dave (90vanman)

    Started by Guest,

Hi I did trial from 1986 to 1993. Since then I have been doing rally, motocross and enduro. In the spring one of my old friends invited me to do a trial on his new trial bike. It was so fun, so 2 month later the enduro was sold and a brand new GasGas 280 was ready to go. I look forward to shearing the wisdom of trial with your guys (and girls) :-) Mud for ever Thomas

Hi to everyone on the forum. Just been looking for trials bits and bobs and came across the forum. I've not ridden for about 18years, used to ride schoolboy trials in the 80's and 90's. I've seen Chris Hanan's name mentioned and Shirty Jnr who I used to ride with. Used to ride for Sheffield and Hallamshire. Just bought a gasser 280 and will be riding first trial on Sunday at Barnsley if I can remember how to ride, not had any practice!!!!!.

  5. Hello all. Last year I rode dirt for the first time after having ridden road bikes and really got the bug. Mostly just greenlaning but I had so much fun and learned so much. I really enjoyed the change of pace and different challenges coming from a sportbike. Later that year I sold my dirtbike and regretted it. So just the other day recently I purchased a 2004 GasGas TXT 250 pro as my first ever trials bike! Just riding it around my garden a bit and then a little in the woods near me I reignited that spark that started smouldering on my dirtbike. I loved how it felt and being new to 2 strokes added a whole new challenge. Mostly I just want to g…

I've just registered, so I thought I'd say hello. I've just joined my son into the Surrey School Boys Club, so he can start riding. Until going along to a Trials for him, I've never been to one and I feel that I've lost many years, of having ago myself. Anyway this year, I'm going to get him going and maybe next year, I'll try it. So advice on first bike please, because I've had a lot of different opinions. He's 7, but small for his age. He's had a few goes on a PW50 and has got on fine. he sat on a GasGas 50 and his feet just touch the ground and he looked even smaller than he is. So: I think I should spend a couple of hundred quid on ebay and get him a PW50, a…

  9. Hello, Please allow me to introduce myself, I have been talked into getting a bike from an old mate seemed a good idea at the time. The last time I rode a trials bike I was 15 over 25 years ago.I used to compete almost every weekend with a bit of success around the North West (UK) area I started in D class on a TY80 eventually ending up on a Cota 200 Montesa following in the bootsteps of my Dad. I have got myself a Beta Evo 290 thought the extra cc would help shift the onboard beer storage vessel I seem to of amassed .I cant believe how things have changed the bikes are so light and responsive the brakes even work ! Its funny how time plays tricks on you in my head I kno…

Hi there folks, new to the forum and joined cos my two youngsters have recently started riding. We have a TY80 at the moment and a second one on its way shortly. Years since I was on a trials bike but now looking at getting one to join the kids in all the fun. May well be asking advice on the bikes and the Yorkshire trials scene. Well I will start now with a question, has anyone out there done a TY80 big wheel conversion. The standard 14"/16" are fine for the 10 year old but I am looking to some larger (16"/19") wheels to fit to the second bike for the 12 year old. I have read that the 32 spoke rims make things difficult. Cheers John.

Greetings from the frozen North. Have looked at this site many times and never took the time to register, daft really as there's a lot of very interesting forums to take part in. Currently falling off a 280 pro and would like to hear from everyone but if I can find someone local to annoy that would be better ! I'm stuck in the middle of Bon Accord and Inverness clubs and have yet to decide which direction to head. Any suggestions ? I have about an acre of field with a few 'obstacles' and (easy) sections in it but it's obviously better to broaden ones horizons if anyone local'ish' has some land to practice on. Visitors to my 'ranch' are always welcome if they fancy a d…

Moved here from the UK back in the 80's (yeah, I know, but your only as old as you feel, lol) Used to ride trials but not much interest here so have ridden and raced MX for many years. Now I have a yearning with a couple of others to get on a trials bike again. Will probably buy new as there just aren't any used around. I raced MX on 4 strokes for the last few years as the 4 strokes really took over and wondering if it's the same in trials? Looked at Sherco , Beta GasGas and see they all have 4 strokes available, although they are quite a bit more. The last trials bike I had was a Sherpa 250T and my last MX was a YZ450F. Anyway any feedback is appreciated and maybe…

Hello All, Some may know me from KTMtalk and Thumpertalk. After "wanting one" for years and attending 4 different Endurocross races and drooling over the trials bikes... Looks like it's gonna happen. I have an appointment next week to pick up a '00 Beta REV 3 I'm really excited, hope to get to know a bunch of you fine folks here on the board.

Just thinking of buying a Montesa Cota 247 72-78. I had one when I was seventeen some 49 years ago. Thought it would be a fantastic project and also to get me fit. The only problem is some of the parts are missing, engine cover, exhast and rear brake lever. Just wondering are thease parts still available? sure there will be other parts it needs. .....Thanks ...Lee

Hey all... Just bought my first trials bike in 20 plus years. A old 77 Montesa Cota 348, I intend to have a go at a few twinshock trials events.. I done a bit of trials way back when on a KT250 , but was more interested in MX & enduro back then . The bodys got a bit old , I don't bounce like I use to...& I'm to slow now anyway... So getting back into trials is a better option now.. I also have a 09 XT660R Enduro side car unit (will do when I finish building it) & 05 XR250.. The Montesa in ok condiction apart from it's missing the air box.. Pull it apart clean and polish the alloy up. Try and make it look like something..Get it ready for summer.. l…

As this is my first post and there's an "introduce yourself" section I thought I would say a quick hello. I'm Chris and have a 1966 Bultaco Sherpa that I'm planning to restore in the coming months, or maybe years as not in too much hurry. From browsing the forums I've been awed and impressed by the depth of knowledge and support so a big thanks for all the information I've already gleaned but I have many more questions. The bike is not in great nick although is mostly complete (I do have the wheels). I've owned it since 1982 when, after destroying my brother's "field bike" (a Casal), my dad bought me the Sherpa mainly to shut me up as I was a bit bike bonkers. Anyway, it'…

Hello, Just getting the virtual beers in, I've swapped over to the "dark side" aka Trials from Enduro. The KTM 250F was flogged (before it went bang, but with a new piston in it.... I don't flog duff gear) and a rather tasty '07 Gasser 250 TXT Pro was slotted into its place in the garage. Currently time is my foe, or should I say lack of it (and the pants weather), the GG has been up & down the drive and that's it in a whole month of ownership!!.... not good. I'm a member of the Manchester 17 MCC club and tend to marshall & set up at the enduro events when I can, I've marshalled one trial and spent hours stood in a stream... being a stickler for marks didn't bo…
