  1. A big "thank you" to Alan and Jon for your replies. I have taken on board what you have said and am now looking at something more practical for what I intend to use the bike for, Yamaha DT 175 or 250. Prices are within my range and lights etc are fitted as standard. Once again, Thank you. Nick.
  2. Hello again Alan, I'm taking on board what people are saying... it seems that most people think I'm looking for the wrong bike for what I want to do. That's exactly why I'm asking as I don't have a lot of cash and can't afford to waste it on the wrong bike. Thanks for your input. I follow up every suggestion with some internet research so please keep the advice coming. Nick.
  3. Hello all, My name is Nick, I live in Bulgaria and I've been riding on the road for 30+ years. I don't intend to compete but I'm looking for an older trials bike ( TY250, Beta TR34/35 or? ) and I would love to have advice from anyone who can steer me in the right direction. I started a post under the Yamaha section entitled TY250 lighting coil but perhaps I should have started here first as my questions are really broader than just that. I see that you are all friendly, helpful folk so if anyone can be bothered to cross ref my first post I would be very grateful. Thank you for your attention. Nick.
  4. Again, thank you for your input Jon. I've looked these bikes up on the web... not really what I want and too new for my budget but I appreciate the suggestions. I don't compete, but like to ride in out-of-the-way places. I want a slow, torquey bike for ambling around, disturbing walkers and shepherds ( yes, really ) as little as possible. I ride, I stop and enjoy the scenery, I ride some more etc. And I'd like to learn new skills albeit at my own pace, which I don't think I'll do on a faster trail/MX bike. I'm pretty sure it's an older trials bike that I need ( perhaps marginally geared up ). I do have a friend with an old Bultaco 350 Sherpa who I may ride with on occasion but on the whole I ride alone. Just trying to give a better picture of my desired use of my intended "new" bike. All thoughts are appreciated though, which is why I made this post. Thank you, Nick.
  5. Thank you for your input Alan. Your points are noted, though I don't intend to do more than 20 miles each way on asphalt. Presumably a lighting coil can be retro fitted then. Are they available? Do the later TY250R mono verions come with a lighting coil too? I have never seen one with lights. Nick.
  6. Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to Trials Central would be very grateful for a little advice. I've been riding on the road for over 30 years and now that I live in Bulgaria I'm looking to buy a trials bike to have some fun in the hills near where I live. No competition riding, just weekend fun. I currently ride a 650cc dualsport but it's just too heavy offroad and I don't want a motoX bike. I will have to cover 20 or so miles each way on the road to get to where I can really use the bike so it has to be road reg which means lights and indicators, and something with a reasonable seat. I'm thinking of a Yamaha TY250, twinshock or mono ( I remember from my youth that they can manage 50+ mph to deal with traffic ) or a Beta TR 34/35 So my questions... Q1 Am I nuts to think this is a good idea? Q2 Can I fit a lighting coil to the generator so that I can fit lights/horn? I've just read a post where a young lad was recommended to consider a Sorpa 125 longride as a relatively roadworthy option. Any comments or advice will be very much appreciated.
