i had similar problems on my gas gas 250 11. i have had the clutch master cylinder replaced which fixed the problem, which then went again.
I replaced the master cylinder kit which fixed it and made it a completly different clutch, plenty of progressive feel and no drag. Not sure how long till it goes again - something to do with swarf or metal not quite cleaned up properly.
Out riding today, the bike seemed to gain a slight noise from the engine, a soft tapping noise, that varied with the engine speed.
I believe its the piston, as that wass where the noise was coming from, not from the big end (im hoping its not aswel!)
I've stripped the bike apart, yes theres a little play in the piston(at the bottom of the stroke), but i am having trouble getting the 2 nut's off the front of the barrel - i cannot get a spanner or socket to fit against the barrel!! Is there a specific spanner etc to make this easier ?
And finally...i know the guy who owned the bike wsa out most weekends, as i am, but how often should a piston / rings approx be lasting ?
I am running castrol TTS at 75ml to 5L of Super Unleaded.
