It turns out the originals were C3's. the recommended C4's are twice the price (same brand C3's) and are also unshielded.

Well that was fun! Finally got the cases apart and can see what has caused the rough idle and noise/vibration. The seals are knackered and the main bearings are well and truly clapped out! They are actually rusty, and make a noise rather like a steam roller on gravel! I am glad I decided to pull it apart. I have had the bike from new and up until the time I put it away for 18 months or so it was running sweet. I have not seen anything like it in 35 years of working on bikes. Is it the ethanol and the water it attracts that has caused this damage to the seals, bearings and carb?
  3. Thanks for the input. I will try heat and see how that goes! The nut was extremely tight, in the end I had to use a high power impact gun to shift the nut. There was no evidence of loctite though. The pedal puller sound very inventive! Sadly I am not!! Fingers crossed!
  4. Well, the engine is out, (I have decided to do a rebuild) and i have most of the parts I need. The clutch is off, and apart from the gear on the crank (driving the clutch) is stuck like the proverbial and stopping me splitting the cases! Cannot see a way to get a puller on it there is so little room and I am worried about damaging the cases if I try levering it off. Is there a trick to shift it?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated! The difference between the C3 is half the cost of a C4, roughly £15 for a pair vs £30. You may be right re the risk but the C4's have nylon snap cages, part of the reason behind the rebuild is ethanol attacking the crank seals, it also attacks nylon. I guess £15 aainst the cost of all the gaskets and seals is not worth the risk. All the best

Hi, can anyone tell me if it is ok to use "C3" clearance bearings in place of the factory fitted larger "C4" clearance bearings on my Sherco? There is a significant price advantage to doing so and I have used them in the past but not on a trials bike. Cheers
  7. they are out of stock, longer ones available though, went apico cold forged, cheers
  8. Can anyone suggest where I can get replacements for a 202 Sherco, I gather the later ones do not fit correctly? With the demise of AJP replacements seen hard to find! Cheers
  9. Trust me the lever has no resistance! certainly not compared to any of my other bikes, it was only when I removed the slave cylinder to see if it was leaking I realised the push rod was operating and the plates were stuck! A BSA C15 clutch is a world away from the sherco's!!
  10. Sorted! I pulled off the slave actuator and realised it seemed to be operating ok so figured the clutch plates were well and truly stuck. Rocked it in gear with the clutch pulled in, eventually freed off. Boy were they stuck! Might do the mod listed on here! Now to sort out the zinging sound I get on revving!
  11. Cheers for the response, I will investigate further, Bit of a mystery it would just die so completely on storage, it was working fine when put away.
  12. Hi, I have just pulled my sherco out of the shed after not using it for a couple of years and found the clutch inoperative. The lever just pulls in with no resistance and does not operate the clutch. There is fluid in the m/cylinder but on inspection the little boot appears to have come out and the small rod the lever operates is now exposed. Not sure what it should look like, could this be the problem or is the slave cylinder a more likely suspect? Thanks in advance!
