I did go with Caswell's in the end and cannot fault the service I got from Hitchcocks who supplied the kit. Ordered yesterday afternoon and arrived this morning. Beware, with postage and VAT, the price is a shade short of £60 squid now. o:

...Update on this carb... It's definitely a 24mm VM round slide. .....BUT...... it's not one of the two generic types It's from a small Jap bike probably, as already been mentioned. The very nice man at Allens is sending me the part we think it might be and we'll take it from there. Not the first time I've dealt with Allens and can't recommend their service and general helpfulness enough. Next......Do I have a spark?........

Thanks... It's a round slide that bolts straight onto the original manifold. the only number cast in the body is 180... Are vale onslows still going? are they still in Sparkbrook?

...While waiting for the creswell tank sealing kit to arrive, I've washed it out and got it ready and then turned towards sorting out the carb. Not sure what the original carb would be on a M49 but this thing has got a very good condition Mikuni VM. Have no idea what size and have no idea how to find out the size. (?) ...Whilst giving it a good clean, I've noticed the tick over screw and spring are missing so another hick-up in getting it fired up. ...Two questions... How do I find out which Mikuni VM do i have? and, where do I look for a tick over screw and spring? ...I'm thinking Allens but is there anywhere else? ...Thanks in advance Oily

...I'm no expert but I do know the first stage with a plastic tank is to seal the inside or the paint will bubble on the outside. Apparently the plastic allows the fuel to leach through. Not a problem unless you want to paint your plastic tank. ...After sealing the inside, you know need a primer that is specifically for plastic. Not a cheap job but a drop in the ocean compared with what you spend on your bikes Bondy

Thanks guys.... I've done loads more reading and it seems there are a load of different brand/types of sealer's out there which doesn't make for the easiest of choices. The most disappointing results I've come across are for Kreme and for that reason alone, I'll give that a miss. The most recommendations I've come across are for caswells so that's where I'm still leaning. For a final decision (I'm not usually, at all indecisive) i now need to locate a supplier (any recommendations?) and find out how many of my very precious beer tokens I'm going to need to swap for this worthy cause.

...I've decided to get on with sorting my M49 fuel tank just in-case it is slowly dissolving from the inside Question is....what is the BEST tank sealer to use? What have you lot used? What's the simplest to use? Notice I didn't mention the price. I'm thinking that these tanks deserve a decent job so I might it even paint it after it's sealed which should gime me the incentive to crack on with the rest P.S I've done a fair bit of homework on this and I'm leaning towards caswells, I just wondered what you guys have used and your experiences on the actual process. ...Also wondering where i actually get these type of things from/

I'll start in earnest on Monday but except for pulling the engine apart and replacing anything that needs it, powder-coating anything that needs it and replacing any bearings seals etc this will be built to a budget and be a usable bike as opposed to a garage queen. If I had known more about it, I probably would have bought a later one instead. lol. I'll try and do it justice. Just noticed we are nearly neighbours. I'm just down the road in Kidd
