To be honest they both looked ok. My plunger is steel and not brass and looked fine, it was just the casing that was worn. There was no gasket or sealer on the casing either. The only other problem ive got is that one of the bolts that hold the casing on the thread has almost disapeared so its going on one bolt less for now. Just need some oil today.

Thanks for your feedback. This evening I have just removed the side cover and found that inside the casing had worn away slightly, so those bits of casing are obviously in the oil. The oil was quite dirty and thick to a change of oil now.Does anyone know what grade oil I should use? See photos below, you can see were the casing has worn. I was unable to remove the flywheel weight so I was unable to remove the clutch. I will change the oil and see how it goes.

Hi. I am having problems with the clutch on my 1972 ( 21M ) 247 and I was wondering if any special tools are needed to remove the clutch plates so I can give them a clean and hopefully solve the problem. At the moment it tries to move forward once I put it in gear with the clutch still in. Thanks.

Hi. Well today I managed to fit a new front tyre to my 247, the first tyre I have ever fitted on a bike. It went OK. My next problem is when i put the bike in gear it tries to move forward so i have to keep the brake on. How easy is it to put a clutch in these and do you need any special tools. Could it be that the clutch cable has just stretched?

Well I have just checked against the engine number and I have found out this must be a 1972 model, I bought it on Sunday as a 1978 model. Can anyone advise me of a good website where I can buy second hand parts. Thanks.

Thanks feetupfun for the quick reply. The engine number is 21M8826. I dont know where to look for the frame number. The silver lump on the frame is tape covering the wiring from the kill switch. I have not removed it yet, it must all join up under there, next weekends job.

Hi everyone. Well today I went and bought this Montesa 247 which apparently is a 1978 model. I was wondering if anyone can confirm this. Just a quick couple of questions. Are the tyres tubeless and why are there 2 spark plugs ( one unused). Might be a daft question, maybe more daft ones to follow. Thanks again.
