So it's a 242cc engine ? Any idea of year? As I want to get it registered
-
I've just got this Cota, but no idea of year and engine size,is it a 200cc ?
Frame has 39m prefix
Engine is 38m
-
Cheers ill try that tomorrow, they should have enough oil on them now, getting fed up with wasting my lock wire.cheers andy
-
Well I've tried different setups with these Barnett plates and I'm back to the six heavy duty springs and all fine until all assembled with oil and it slips still,I've turned them in , and backed them off 31/2 turns then trued the clutch up,I can't have it slipping I can't even start it now, every other kick is spongy, next I'll try pulling the lever in and tighten the springs up tight, what do you think ? Can't see how you run it with 4 springs, Cheers Andy
-
Cheers Larry I thought three because it would be even,I use a three spring clutch on my grasstrack bikes which run dry clutches ,
I've run an extra wire from the handlebar switch to the rectifier to try and stop the smaller festoon bulb from blowing, see how it goes,I'm going to leave the mikuni on as it's running good cheers again all andy
-
After what I've been through with my bike I would say its a carb issue, not sure what carb you got fitted but the a also used to accelerate when you leaned them over it was a float issue cheers andy
-
Cheers graham, just a probl with a few blown bulbs,as with the clutch, can you run with just 3 springs, I've fitted the heavy duty springs, and is a bit heavy on the lever cheers andy
-
Yes graham I think you could be right,it has the nuts on the springs on the clutch could be either ,but if only I knew before,I've machined a washer, new drilled nut to lockwire which was missing, all nice and tight now, assembled the clutch ,alignment good, the tensioner doesn't run true so I took it off,and with the mikuni fitted started her up and hallelujah it bloody runs !! Revs and ticks over a treat,I nearly wet my pants cheers for the help, wouldn't have got there without you all,not sure if it was either the carb or missing washer but they've both sorted it,tomorrow I'll take it for a spin before I long wire it up and put the cover on.
I'll let you know how it goes cheers again andy
-
Sorry forgot to say its got the duplex chain, and I've fitted the Barrett ? Clutch plates cheers again andy
-
I've seen the light with the primary issue,it would seem that the flywheel has been changed at some time, and one from another model has been put on ,with the single outside weight, after trawling the net for pictures ,it would seem that it as said before ,should have a 4mm counterbore to tighten the sleeve up but this hasn't ,so the sleeve has been floating,I've fitted the new seals and weighting for some small bits from in motion to put it back together, mikuni is fitted, proof will be in the pudding as to say, tomorrow I should have it back together ,I'll let you know how I get on cheers Andy
-
It's a motoplat electronica,I've had it checked, guess I'll have to make up a spacing washer,I've already discovered bits missing ie,primery chain tensioner so I'll check the alignment,in motion told me that the sleeve is the correct one 28.5mm but sprocket has no counterbore looks like there is an O ring both ends of the top hat cheers andy
-
If you have the Haynes manual it shows the step 11.9 picture.either there's a washer missing between the top hat sleeve and cog or there is something's not right because the back side of the cog is flat and will only tighten against the shoulder of the shaft cheers andy
-
Sorry about this I asked this before but I'm still unsure, the sleeve that goes into the seals ok but there is a 4mm shoulder on the drive shaft, which in the Haynes manual looks the same, but this means when running the sleeve will move in and out, should there be a 4mm washer spacer between the top hat sleeve and the back of the drive cog\flywheel weight!I've got it all apart at the moment to redo the seals!I don't see the reason for the O rings if their not clamped in place,in motion have given me a mikuni to try,I can return it if it's not the carb cheers andy
-
I'm going to redo the seals,is the wear sleeve that goes into the seal supposed to be free floating ,what alternative carbs are there,I'm a bit apprehensive in spending out on a new carb without knowing it's definitely that cheers andy
-
Is there anyone in the wolverhampton area with a bing 28 I could borrow ? I changed the jets not a lot of difference and took the rear silencer off to see if it made a difference but nothing so it's looking like a trip soon and start from scratch
-
Cheers for the replays, this is where I'm at now,I drained the fuel and fresh fuel put in,reset the timing with dial indicter, started her up without the tank on,knowing it would cut out,and it was still the same, but A lot of fuel coming out of the intake ,and as the fuel started to run out it picked up to what it should be like, which makes me think that it's a fuel problem,ie,to much fuel is bogging it down ,and to much fuel making it smoke,so I change the float, and needle ,and adjusted the float level to different settings ,but no change, today I'll change the main jet,to see if that changes anything, but no strip down as yet cheers Andy
-
ive tried it with and without the filter, ill check the timing again today, does anyone have any info on timing with a motoplat ?is it as ive done ?lining up the tiny holes when 2.6 btdc cheers andy
-
Carb is good slide is good,my next move was to empty the petrol and try some fresher fuel,I put extra oil in before, just to oil it up a bit,the exhaust system is new one so I wouldn't suspect that cheers andy
-
my alpi na is driving me round the bend,it wasnt running when i got it,i had the motoplat checked by bradford ignitions and everything is ok,ten got it running, but running very flat and smoking, and wont idle,so i renewed the engine seals, still running flat and smoking,so rebored with new piston, still flat and smoking, what now ? ive cleaned the carb out everytime so far, ignition is at 2,6mm btdc, looking like a complete strip down now, when i spun the flywheels i noticed there was some oil at the bottom of the crankcase, which came round when i spun them, could this be the gearbox leaking ?anyone got any ideas cheers andy
-
I'll give them a try cheers for that,Andy
-
Yes it's a week spark,I had motoplat uk check stator and coil and alls ok,but he can't do the flywheel,I saw the add for villiers spares I rang but the need a special machine to do motoplats because the magnet poles aren't the same so I have to wait and ring back in a few weeks, there is one thing I can check is by bolting the coil to the engine,to see if there is a fault with the earth from frame to engine, concerning the flywheel, bultaco uk said that different sized engines had different weighted flywheels so would be good to try one but nearly all on ebay are in the US and the postage is to much to take a chance on a used flywheel, for other .
Remagnatizing doesn't cost much it's just finding someone who does motoplats cheers andy
