I must say that lipos and Kelly Controller are just awesome for Oset. Our battery pack lasts about 6-8 hours of riding and throttle is very smooth. We removed training wheels today from our almost 2,5 year old son. He absolutely loves the bike now.

Now I have finally added the 10s 15ah lipos with Kelly Controller to my son's 12.5v oset. We have been driven 3 times now and the voltage is still 38,8 volts. First time I charged only to 40 volts. So massive improvement to stock batteries. Throttle response is much smoother and performance is superior although I only use 70% top speed (29,4 volts fully charged) and 40% torgue. Is the cell difference acceptable:

My son is only few months past two years so we made custom training wheelies for him. Stock training wheels were absolute rubbish, if we got one inch bumb, bike falled. Now it's very good. Hopefully we get training wheels of in the end of summer. Just need one inch length to his feet.

Can the Kelly Controller be adjusted so that the takeoff is snappy like standard controller when turning full throttle immediately? But when gently turning the throttle it accelerates smoothly.

Finally made decision and ordered:
-6x 5000 mah 4s turnigys, so total pack is 42v/15ah
-Icharger 106b and parallel board so I can charge all packs once
-Using atx power @12v
-Kelly KDS48100E with cables and waterproof
-0.4" led Voltmeter
-Lots of wires and connectors and Lipo safe pack
Now waiting for delivery. Totaling ~£370
-
Just for the info, oset 12.5" original motor controller cuts off exactly 32.1V, so 7s Lipo is maximum for that.
-
Any instructions to add Kelly Controller to Oset 12.5" when planning to get direct contact to motor and removing relay and key switch. If using relay do I need to purchase 36v male or female version or should any 36v relay do the business? I will use 37v lipo pack for the bike.

Where you wire that so it's off when bike is?

Sadly the 20ah lifepo pack didn't fit to my son's Oset. So I am ordering 8s lipo pack from hobbyking. Is there on hobbyking a voltage meter that can measure whole pack voltage and I just charge it when it hits 8 x 3.2v = 25.6v.I think I don't need invidual cell voltages because I am planning to balance check/charge every week or two. Or is invidual cell meter better and which one I should get? Is this ok: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=42751I would put it on side of my pack so it would be easy to check on to go. If I use now 4x 4s 5000 mah batteries to get 8s 10ah, is it okay to later add 2 x 2s 5000 mah batteries to series totaling 10s 10ah? Can different voltage batteries be added to series when amps match.
-
Just one quick question. My friend has pretty new 36v 20ah Lifepo kit with bms willing to sell to me ~£300. It would be awesome, but can the 500w motor handle hot off the charger voltage (43,8v)? It's XIANGYANG XYD-131 http://www.china-xiangyang.com/en/Img.asp?/b-31-pp-0-c-133.html There it says 24-48v. Or can I limit the current via Kelly Controller. That battery would just be so good, because when we are buying oset 16" 36v, it would fit it too.
-
Change to the plans, I just got 6v battery measured 6,45v and I added it to series with fully charged original batteries and backwheel SPINNED! So I guess I will try to find exact HVC with adjustable dv power supply. It would be amazing if 8s lipo would be ok so I don't need to buy Kelly Controller to bike. So it was now around 32v and 8s lipo is hot off the charger 33,6. I try it tomorrow with power supply.

Using 4x turnigy 5000mah 6s 20c pack I get 25.6v 20ah for just £114 so pretty cheap instead of Lifepos. So charging four of them simultaneously it would take 4 hours.
-
Lifepos are too expensive for my budget. What about purchasing 6s lipos now and later adding 3s lipos to them? So now it would be 25.2v hot off the charger. I would like to have 20000 mah so I have to buy 4 x 5000 mah 6s lipos and add them parallel. Is it okay to purchase parallel charge board and charge all lipos at once with this charger: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=58216and how long charging would last? Later i would purchase another cheaper charger to 3s lipos and charge them separately. I would use my 500w ATX power supply, which gives 34 A to 12v line. Can I run 3s and 6s charger simultaneously with it? Thanks for the advices.

Where I see or check the limit of the hvc? Can it hold 7s lipo? And If I buy Kelly Controller, 10s lipo pack is this charger enough: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6792 or need I this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6609__iCharger_1010Bplus_300W_10s_Balance_Charger.html? Which is the cheapest good charger for 2x 10s packs? Or is it wiser to get 4x 5s lipos and 4x charger? and what voltage controller from hobbyking you could recommend?
-
Can I remove HVC, modify it or change it?
-
tried to to test my bike and added normal 12v battery in series so total voltage was 36v.Lights turned on but back wheel does not spin. Is there anything I can do that I get it working? I want to get it working before ordering lipos. I attached picture of my Oset 12.5 24v motor controller.
-
Which hobbyking low voltage alarm you have?
-
Could I add the voltage checkers via witch like this and turn on when bike running:
Or could I wire them via bikes own power-on switch?
Which bms on hobbyking you would recommend?
-
Would this be enough to check the voltage: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18588__HobbyKing_8482_Cell_Checker_with_Low_Voltage_Alarm_2S_8S_.html
And is this suitable charger of a that kind of setup (4 batteries in 2x2 in series, 29,6v @ 10000mah) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__12105__HobbyKing_8482_ECO6_10_200W_10A_6S_Bal_Dis_Cyc_Charger_w_acc_.html

My 2 year old outruns the power of his Oset 12.5 24v and the original battery is getting pretty weak. I'm considering to upgrade to lipos, is 4 x 5S1P overkill to 24v oset (37v @ 10000mah)? Or would the 4S1Ps give enough power increase? Oset is 2013 model.
