  1. Thanks for your responses guys! @oni-nou: you are correct that the clip is reflection and it is in the groove around fork slider. Seals are SKF and they are only 2 months old. So here I am hoping it is not bushings as you say. I have seen forks being cleaned with plastic strip, is it a good alternative while I procure the tool? Thank you!!
  2. Hello Guys! Paioli 38mm forks on my 2000 Rev3 leaks when the bike is parked for 10-15mins. If you imagine the direction of travel as reference axis, then the point of leak is 180 degrees. If I wipe away the oil leak and compress the forks few times and check oil on the stanchion, there is no oil leak. However if I park the bike for say 10-15 mins then oil leak can be seen. Suspension shop says that the oil seal is tight and the oil is leaking because of compromised o-ring. Has anyone experienced this? Is the o-ring a generic type i can find here in the USA? or do I get the o-ring from UK trials shops? Appreciate your help!
  3. Thank you Dan. You assessment was accurate. The coil itself is seems to work although I had to get the stator rewound from Steve, and also replace the CDI. Now the bike starts with a single kick!
  4. Thanks for the response folks! In case I need to buy a coil here in USA, could you please give me some shops I can try? all I see from my web searches are UK stores or UK sellers on eBay. Thanks much!
  5. Hello folks! My 2000 Beta Rev3 2T 250 has some electrical problem and there is no spark at the plug. Checking the ignition coil resistance - primary is 0.7ohm and secondary side is 10k ohm which includes 5k ohm plug cap resistor. Searches on the forum seems to indicate that the primary side should be 3ohm; as another data point, my buddy's Evo primary side reads 2.7ohm. So i am assuming the lowered resistance is reducing the voltage across the primary by 75% so that may be reason for no spark. Could someone help by confirming if 3ohm is the right value? Also, is ignition coil specific to 2T/4T or are they the same -- i am guessing they would be the same, but not sure. I would like to purchase the coil from USA if possible - who should I try? I have not dealt with Beta directly so not sure if they are speedy enough. Thanks much in advance!
  6. AFAIK, there is just owners manual in english/pdf and parts list in italian that you can find easily via betausa.com. There is no factory service manual, so consequently the main thing missing is torque specs. I am finding working on the bike is simpler than a typical enduro bike, and I post questions here if I have doubts about anything for my '00 rev3.
  7. RFX is one option https://www.ebay.com/itm/RFX-Flexi-Flexible-Pivot-Forged-Brake-Clutch-Levers-lever-Trials-BETA-REV-3-blue-/390741414998
  8. sounds like an excellent idea! Fork servicing is new to me so this info will definitely be useful. Yes, Northern California. The bike looks new because it was mostly sitting in the garage of previous owners. You may be aware -- California regulators think it is better to let really old bikes in the park from early May to end of September to regulate emissions than allowing the latest models!! So, the only reason I ended up with bike this old was it allowed me to ride year round (I do not know any private property nor I am near a federal land where you can ride year round). more info: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/ohvredgreen http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21928
  9. LOL; fair point - the carb is out of the bike and open, thought may be i should ask. Thanks!
  10. Hello folks! The main jet is 145 and pilot is 27.5 now. Do I need to worry about the jet needle clip position? The needle has 5C23 stamped on it, and clip is currently at 2nd groove from top. Thank you!
  11. @oni nou: Thanks for your inputs. Per your suggestion, I will change fork seals, and will start looking for a spare shock. One additional question: if I buy a fork seal driver, will it work across other models of trials bikes, or newer beta models?
  12. Hello! Been thinking about servicing front forks and rear shock of 2000 rev3 2T 250, and previous owner had the bike sitting around for probably 4-5 years. I have attached the pictures. The suspension seem to be working ok, but I would like to service and replace needed items to ensure its reliability. Do you have recommendation on what to replace and what tools you suggest I buy? Considering lead times, I would rather have things ready before starting on this project. Thanks much in advance!
  13. After changing the ignition coil bike ran fine for couple weeks and there is no spark again and bike does not run -- I was talking to one of the local dealers and I was asked to make sure there is no bad ground connection. I plan to verify the continuity of ignition coil primary as well as secondary ground terminal to chassis. What else should I be checking? I would appreciate your insights into this. Thanks much.
  14. Yes, I have already replaced it with BR7ES and bike starts fine, and that should do till I get the pilot jet in next few days. Thanks for the help guys!
  15. Thank you @klonheadd and @danwilliams. I have already ordered the 27.5 pilot! Initially it was 65:1 which i based it on the Beta manual. Per recommendation from fellow riders, I am currently at 80:1. Since I also do some single tracks and ride along fire roads to access those single tracks, I will stick to 80:1. Out of curiosity, how does one get to know the carb model? With dirt bikes, things were pretty simple - the manual would say the carb model I do miss the attention to details of Honda manuals. Currently I have to stick with 2002 or prior models so I can ride year round (green/red sticker BS from Socialist Republic of California) Ok will do.
  16. I am assuming that the capacitor is being charged at 300v from the stator/rectifier to ensure quick charge (capacitor charging time varies directly as the input voltage?). When I measured ignition coil primary resistance it was around 0.5 ohm, and the voltage at the output of CDI (I have labeled this as 1 and 2 in the initial post) when hand cranking the kick-starter was between 10-15v which is what capacitor discharges to induction coil primary I am assuming. I did not see 100v or 300v when cranking the kick-starter, which is puzzling to me as the hand crank did produce spark. Does the hall sensor trigger happen by a magnet in the notch? it would be interesting for me to know. Thanks again for your detailed response.
  17. @lineaway, apologies, I should have been clearer in my request. If have to buy new pilot and main jet, should i worry about fitment to a specific Mikuni carburetor model? Is there a Mikuni model number for 2000 Beta rev3 2T? I did not find in manuals and I didn't see it on the carb. Cheers.
  18. @lineaway thanks. Are the Mikuni jets model specific? i see some listings on Ebay but was wondering if I need to be aware of the Mikuni carb model that the bike uses which I could not find upon cursory look at the bike. @copemech: sure will do, thanks.
  19. Hello! The bike is 2000 Rev3 2T 250 2T which was living at 5800ft (1750 meter) elevation and it ran just fine during test ride at that elevation. The bike now lives at sea level, and it was running fine as-is for about 4 rides. Now the bike is hard to start, so I took a look the spark plug -- it was wet, dark and the bike refuses to start many times. If I clean the spark plug thoroughly, bike starts fine and the issue repeats after few rides. Being new to trials bikes and two strokes, I may be facing a jetting issue that I am hoping someone can help me with. Few forum searches say recommended pilot jet is 30 or 27.5. The carb is Mikuni and I am not sure of the current pilot size. I will be taking out the carb soon, and if you have recommendation on mainjet/pilotjet/airscrew for a newbie like me, I would really appreciate it.
  20. @danwilliams: thank you for the response. I have not explored north of ignition coil (towards stator) but will do. one question: what is the voltage needed for spark? 300v seems small, hence I am asking. Cheers.
  21. Update: The ignition coil was bad. and even after the install of new ignition coil, the bike would not start. As it turns out, spark plug boot had gone bad (open circuit), which is a rare coincidence for sure. I was able to get a friend to hard solder the boot connector inside, and finally the bike starts!! I really appreciate all your help.
  22. Thanks for the responses @2stroke4stroke @naichuff BTW, could someone tell me what is a trigger and where is it located? @naichuff when you say six coils, do you mean six units of what i show in the picture are on the bike? I don't see anything else connecting to spark plug. Cheers
  23. The bike does not start. There was no visible spark from the spark plug, but spark plug itself was fine when we spark tested with another Beta. So, I pulled out the ignition coil and tested for continuity, I have attached the picture labeling the terminals. Here is what I found When cranked and the voltage between 1 and 2 reads between 10v to 14v, so the stator seems working When tested for resistance, with 2 (ground) disconnected, the resistance reads zero for the following terminals 3 and 4 terminals 3 and 5 terminals 4 and 5 Between any of (3, 4, 5) and 6 at the spark plug end the resistance is 1k So, is the ignition coil defective? Thanks much in advance!
  24. @lineaway: Thank you. I will keep the current gearing and use second mostly. I will ride with current setup for couple more months and see how things go.
  25. Hello! I am a newbie to trials (enduro/mx riding previously) and recently purchased 2000 Rev3 (primarily reason: it is pre-2002 model, so it allows year round riding around California public off-road parks). I find first and second gear to be very low, and a couple of experienced trials riders also mentioned this when they rode the bike. It currently has 10 teeth front, and 42 teeth rear. What do you recommend I change? An additional constraint that seems to be worrying is that the rear sprocket is 6 hole sprocket, and majority of the rear sprockets that i find on the market are 4 hole sprockets. So, is the easiest would be to switch to 11 teeth front since the front sprocket design seems to be the same across beta models? Really appreciate your help! Thank you
