Hi my gas gas is running fine revs up well. But when going up hill and get to high end revs it's starts spluttering. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, recently bought a 2001 gasgas 280txt as bait if a project. Will start but doesn't run very well or rev very high and doesn't run for long before exhaust is glowing red hot. Have stripped and cleaned carb and air filter. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks
