Has anyone else had issues with their throttle cable sticking? I suspect it to be the cause of the following incident: After a ride and wash, I started my 2022 Evo 300 2T (10h total time) to dry it off and lube the chain. When I started it, it went to full rpm and stayed there. Kill switch didn’t want to stop it (maybe I didn’t keep it pressed long enough but it seemed to me, in that moment of panic, that it had no effect). I pulled the spark plug lead off. That obviously worked (after a nice few jolting shocks rattled my arm).
I recall Danny Butler mentioning in one of his YouTube videos (Trial Tube), the potential for Evo throttle cables to get snagged by the bar pad. Until now, I had no issues. It maintains free play throughout the steering range from lock to lock. I had reversed the bike out to a space to start it, during which I turned it to near full lock. I suspect that pulled the cable in such a way that it got stuck, possibly lifted it out where it enters the throttle housing. The throttle itself was closed, so the only way I can imagine it to rev like that is for the cable to be pulled elsewhere in the line.
I inspected it and checked the throttle. Didn’t notice anything click back into place and everything seemed normal so I gingerly started it again, ready to pull the lead off once more, if needed. It ran and stopped normally. Certainly don’t want that happening again while riding!
