  1. Finally, after changing the points, I managed to have the perfect setting (2.6 mm), just before the limit of the adjustment stop. I think there were three reasons for the problem (decreasing importance): First: wear of points and heel, Second: did not tighten the flywheel nut before measuring the timing. I don't remember who wrote this on this forum but I thank him, Third: my timing tool was perfectible. Thank you all.
  2. I just called the french Hughes Bultaco to order the points. He told me the same thing : fibre heel worn (and don't forget to oil the felt). I’ll tell you when it’s done.
  3. It worked before but the bike was very difficult to start (with a brand new Dellorto carb). So I decided to check the ignition : the points gap was only 0.2 mm and the points were a bit pitted. The timing was out of capacity of my tdc tool (> 4 mm) I've refresh the points with sand paper and try to set the timing but even at the maximum position (second picture) I still have more than 4 mm. Just to see I settled at the other end and I get 13.5 mm (roughly with a pencil). I determine the opening position with a multimeter (I've check once it was really the opening with a paper piece). Do you think that new points could solve the problem? Does the timing change a lot with their wear? Thank's for your help.
  4. I wanted to adjust the timing of my Alpina 188 (should be between 2.5 and 2.7 mm BTDC) but the adjustment range is between 4.5 mm and 13.5 mm! Do you have any idea what the possible cause of this problem is?
  5. I got it by heating the flywheel center with an electric heater gun. Thank you all.
  6. Finally, it was easy to unscrew the central nut. I did a bracket between flywheel and frame. But now, I can't extract the flywheel despite using a good flywheel puller M33x1.5. Any trick to help? Do you use an impact driver/rattle gun for this too? Would a bearing ball at the contact surface make it easier?
  7. I have to remove the flywheel rotor to adjust the ignition timing of my 188 Alpina. What is the best way to lock the flywheel rotation? I don’t have a flywheel holder (strap tool). Is it appropriate to use the holes in the rotor to put a bracket (to the frame for example) for blocking? Thank's for your help.
  8. Hello. I’m in France (sorry for my bad english) and I’m almost ready to restart this 188 Alpina. I still have to repair the seat that have a bracket tear off and would like it don't do it again. How this saddle is supported is unclear to me. My understanding is that the seat rests on the frame at the areas I have surrounded in black. The brackets (one missing) that I have surrounded in red are only to avoid the seat to lift up and are not loaded by the weight. Is that the way it works? Furthermore, I think (this is quite clear) the forks of the saddle (surrounded in blue) should be under the frame cross plate. My Bultaco specialist told me the seat rests on the brackets surrounded in red but I think he is more used to the Sherpas trial. I hope you understand and I thank you for your help. Fabrice
