  1. Ok guys, the carb is back in and after about 5 minutes of kicking and kicking she fired into life She's starting now 1st kick... ****, that reminds me, better turn off the fuel tap.... Phil, you mean carb settings? I have my air screw turned 1 full turn out, and she's running very VERY rich, so I would imagine that 2 to 2.5 turns out should see it running better. Also, the idle speed screw doesn't do anything after the 4th turn out (Mikuni carb) so you'll need to screw it in all the way, and try it from 4 turns out and keep turning it in half a turn. I had no settings to go by either but mine seems to be running well now. I will have a play with the idle mixture screw tomorrow, but I'd say 2 turns out at least is ballpark...
  2. Thanks guys. I'm just after stripping and cleaning the carb - it was really filthy!! I couldn't believe the amount of crud that came out of it. I'll reassemble and try it tomorrow evening and let you know how I get on. I'll have a go at the carb mods once I get the thing running again - I'm reluctant to change anything until I get it running again Thanks again! J.
  3. Hi folks, new to the forum, just getting back into trialing after a few (many) years away... I picked up a 96/97 Techno a couple of weeks ago and since last week the bike just will not start. This is my first stroker so I'm not 100% sure of myself when diagnosing problems! I have read the posts about turing off the fuel tap etc... and I have checked everything... I have a good meaty blue spark, I changed the HT to one from my VOR which I know is good (so no arcing), there's fuel getting to the carb... I have pretty much checked all I can.... with the exception of stripping the carb. I put fresh mix in it yesterday thinking that being Italian it's probably like the VOR I have which is super sensitive to 'stale' petrol (the bike was sitting up a for a few months before I bought it) - no joy. But as I was kicking it over I discover that there was petrol dripping from one of the exhaust joints... surely this isn't normal!? Instead of air/fuel being drawn into the cylinder it looks like it's just pure petrol. This would suggest to me that perhaps my floats are stuck, but I don't have fuel piddling out of the overflow... so maybe not... I checked the idle mixture screw and it was only turned out half a turn which to me suggests it's been running extremely rich, and in fact, when I stuck my finger into the exhaust it was full of sticky black burnt oil. So, my questions are: 1. Does it look like the carb is the key? 2. Does anyone have carb settings for the Techno? (it's the Mikuni carb) 3. Does the oily/sticky exhaust sound like she's been running far too rich/or with too much oil in the mix? Thanks in advance, J.
