  1. Hi Boner, A friend & I both have the same problem. The only common thing we have found is that both our rotors have hairline cracks running through them. The other troubled soul has had delivery of a new rotor (& stator CDI) but hasn't had time to fit them yet. The ignition really is a weakness, but on all the problem bikes they do seem to produce a good spark.

I know a while back someone posted details of using an alternative system. I'm sure there must be an alternative to the selettra unit.

  2. Hi Bruce,

With a make shift ignition set-up (points & coil) I got it running tonight. A bit worrying as it took a short while for the oil to circulate. Will now purchase an electronic ignition from electrexworld.

Yes, that was the tank on eBay............ or should I say colander! Not sure if it is worth trying to seal or maybe using as a pattern. (porous rather than a split seam).

Very interested to see pictures of your progress Bruce, I'm sure it will help me make improvements to mine in the unlikely event of my riding ability deserving it!

  3. Hi Bruce, Like yourself I decided to do my own mods to my cub project. Have the same problem with the right hand shock and not sure if it is worth altering. Chain clearance to tyre looks like the next problem to sort. May rebuild the wheel with a bit more offset.

Keep us updated with your progress. Will try and post a couple of pictures of mine 90% completed 90% to go!

  4. Ah the memories, I did this on a bike 30 years ago. The petrol tank was knackered so we had swapped it for a Fairy Liquid bottle taped to the frame, bit of petrol leakage didn't worry us too much until we tried the plug against the barrel trick! Whooosh, set fire to my left leg too ;)

They do flood easily, especialy if the bike falls over. The ignition system on the boy is very poor to say the least. If it is an early type can make it a real pain to start.

  5. try this link then find your year model then the txt boy . http://www.gasgasmuseum.com/

Many thanks for the reply. Had a good hunt on the site & links, but unfortunately nothing for the txt 50. I'm sure someone has had one of these to bits before?? I think ours has been worked on by a previous owner & not assembled correctly, hence the cries for help!

    Thanks
