  1. Sorted, changed needle to 4 stroke type and re jetted carb. Thanks for clarification. Rgds
  2. Hi all, I was thinking of fitting an element type filter into the feed lineof my BSA c15, does anyone know of a suitable manifold(possibly from a scrapped car) that is easy to convert to use and that the elements are available for. Any assistance appreciated. Rgds
  3. Hi, in a previous listing I saw reference to the difference offered with amal carbs of a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke needle. On tinkering today, dont know why as runs like a hamsters heart, albiet if hamsters suffer that vibration at low revs i dont think they could walk straight, i noticed that needle has 1 identifying groove above the clip setting grooves. In Rupert Ratios book this identifies it as a 2 stroke needle (4 stroke 2 identifying grooves). Someone mentioned that the 2 stroke needle is shorter, would this meam or explain C15 with 622-301 running rich not getting the metering of the longer needle at higher revs or am I looking at worn parts anyway. Only info I can get on 64 engine suggests they were fitted with monobloc so if anyone can advise needle/jets and whether a chrome slide is an advantage it would be much appreciated. Also, small thing but if i have oil stain around kickstart and gearlever shafts on a distributor model is it due to case holding too much oil or can oil just creep along these shafts after use. Need to know whether to buy a gasket and allen keys to find out. Any help appreciated. rgds nigel
  4. Hi Woody I found that discussion and it did indeed answer all of my questions. I think I will try the economical Betor until something convinces me lightweight alu or another make are preferable at a higher price. Many thanks
  5. Sorry, should have been posted on pre 65. Although most shock questions have been answered via another post. Will try betor as they say the will adjust to rider weight. 40lbs spring for a 12 stone novice with change out of 96 delivered to Ireland. Beats others asked by 50 quid. rgds
  6. Hi, new to trials again and slightly out of the info loop as living in Ireland. Posted an intro which should explain most. Although there does not seem to be recognised pre 65 trials in Munster I do not see that as a reason to not try to prepare my recent purchase to it's potential. Last owner has done a fabulous job, but it is always difficult to know what is needed. My first instinct is to replace the items difficult to judge wear upon - needle and jets- replace plug and adjust tappets. Starts 5/6 kicks but would love to get it in 2. Info on expected compression reading would be invaluable as therein lies the wallet factor. My major concen at present is shocks. I have left forks as is, as a renewal of oil has brought them back to the land of the living but I need to replace rear shocks. I have investigated betor/falcon? and have also been offered lightweight alu models. For a bike that is primarily going to see rough roads, but i would like to aim (and get over) the occasional ditch what would be best value. Also if anyone can suggest an introduction to trials at this end of ireland it would be most appreciated. rgds and i'll always ak anyway. nog
  7. Hi to all, 3 months ago mentioned to the wife "would'nt a motorbike be handy for going to work rather than another car". When the reply came "yes, perfect and you could always use my car if you needed it", I had to clean up the kitchen where I had just spat my mug of coffee. Before a change of mind could be made, jeep sold, BSA C15 trials bought in UK and delivered to Ireland. I had the pleasure of working in a motorcycle shop during school/college which specialised in Brit parts, so have a bit of a background, but need a refresher course..Bit disappointed with the suspension of the bike but new oil in the front forks stopped the bottoming, and new Betor rear shocks ordered. PVL ignition already fitted, so some of the work done. Trails primary gearing removed by last owner but supplied, but will not fit as yet as have to use bike on road as well. Only 2 miles to work but Irish roads and hence the trials bike. Would like to know what options I have to replace forks without major surgery and also exhaust tappet adjustment screw taps the cover, probably holding valve open. Screw seems a lot longer than inlet side, any ideas as to correct length or part number so I can source a replacement. Also would like to fit lights but would need fork brackets as well as lamp, any ideas for something in keeping with the rest of the bike. Will be grateful for any advice assistance as not too many bikes of this type in Ireland at present. Rgds to all. Hav'nt seen how to post pics so cant forward as yet.
