  1. If you look at the World Cup entries this year, a lot of the "youths" in the 16-18 age group have made the jump directly into the blue line rather than riding green. So not sure looking at youth entries this year is an apples to apples comparison.

    The young guys are making the jump to the 300 now that they are not limited by the rules, and I don't think you will find it is harming them much! In some ways, it's better they get on the big bike sooner and learn throttle control and how to use the full range of power, rather that the pure rev and go 125 style.

  2. Wow, a possible site with lodging and facilities is a gift from above! Line is right about being driven by a local club, and a few dedicated souls, but even with the lack of a local club at the moment, might be of interest if we can gather some individuals willing to put in the effort that are close enough. Will give NATC a heads up on the interest by the owner and see if we can generate any traction. Pete, if you PM me some details, I'll carry this forward and advise.

  3. Thanks for the pic Andy! That's my Boy! Andrew had a really tough day Saturday with some mechanical issues, and then rushing to make up time was taking points, but today was better. Bryan Roper had a couple good days to kick of the European tour for the guys.

  4. Thanks for that JR - Andrew has no interest in any other disciplines at the moment. He's a Trials rider through and through, and has his heart and mind set on competing at the World level… In fact, we are on our way back over to Europe in August, and he will ride the European Youth Championship round in Belgium, followed by the FIM 125 Cup rounds in Spain.

  5. In addition to the thicker sump guard, it is a good idea to cut/trim the rubber that sits between the guard and the case. You cut off the piece that is approx 3" long x 3/4" wide (give or take) that is just below the outer case section on the brake side (not talking about the clutch cover, but rather the case section it bolts to). Pretty sure there is a mold line in the rubber that can be used as your cutting guide. On hard impacts the rubber can smash up into the case, slightly bending the outer case, causing oil leaks at the case seam.

  6. The Sherco clutch is very straight forward to work on. You don't "need" the clutch holding tool to take off the clutch basket - I use an impact gun (air or battery both work), and just leave the majority of the clutch stack in place in the basket to hold it while the impact spins off the center nut. Easy-peasy.

  7. Would seem to me having kids ("young people") AND their parents ("older people") interested in trials is the ticket. Yes, the parents/older riders have the funds to buy bikes, but as ducati996 said, lots of them spend that money on their kids - there isn't a lack of spending in the MX community for the kids. This idea that trials should simply focus on one demographic or the other seems a bit short-sighted. The Trials industry needs to engage at all levels, not just one.

  8. It is AWESOME! I love mine, it is a perfect "fun East Coast single track" bike. Rides like a trials bike with seat and tank - feels really light and nimble. Suspension is good for trail riding - wouldn't want to be hitting any doubles on it though! Still has the gap between 3rd and 4th, but it is manageable, and if you keep it wound up, you don't have to drop out of 4th "too" much. Haven't run the tank that low, but I'm guessing you can get at least 25-30 miles out of it if not more.

  9. Yeah, the video makes it all as clear as mud to me! I had trouble seeing the difference on some of the examples between the clean and the fail. I think Observers are really in for a hard time. The folks checking at TTC this year will have their hands full, especially since this is a one-off "No-Stop" event here in the US this year! I hope competitors give them the respect they deserve...

Well, for 2013, NATC carries on as in past years, with Stop Allowed, so for the moment, we don't need to get too wrapped up in the emotion, we just need to be very thoughtful in regards to our future rules. Although, I have to admit, a highly emotional response is certainly tempting, regardless of which side of the debate you may fall on!

    The dilemma NATC faces will be for 2014 and beyond. And that Dilemma really relates to our Pros, aspiring Pros, high level Expert riders (and the dads/minders that drag them or follow them around) who want to be competitive at a World level. If we really want to start to foster and encourage world level competitors here in the US, we are going to have to adopt the FIM regulations so our guys can compete at TDN and World Rounds.

    I can already hear the argument that "there aren't many of those guys/gals who are interested in international competition, so we don't need to be concerned with what they do over there". But several of our younger riders, especially some of the current Pros and Experts, are driven by the desire to test themselves against the world, and if NATC doesn't adopt FIM regulations at some stage, our riders will be disadvantaged on the international stage. I expect that the discussions this year relating to the rules in 2014 will be very interesting.

    As one of those dads/minders who is happily dragging my son all over this country and hoping to see him competing internationally some day, I have come to the conclusion that I can't get too wound up about what rules are finally chosen. We are ALL IN for this sport in any case, and will deal with the hand that is dealt, and learn how to compete within whatever rules are put in place.

I'm going to have to remember what gear oil I put in last time,But my 2011 was sticking BADLY when cold and I was planning to do the Beta fix as it worked wonders on my Fantic,but my Sherco seems to have corrected itself and now works wonderfully. Everything I put ATF in makes the clutch work good but shifting gets clunky when hot,makes me worry about my transmission.

    Hey Doug, here is the lazy-man's "fix" for sticking clutch plates on startup - put the bike in 5th gear prior to kick starting her... This un-sticks the plates the vast majority of the time, with no need to go through the alteration process, or changing to ATF, etc. And you then get the stock clutch feel and shifting.

  12. Well, then I at least know of two as well, Brad has one and so does Chris Cullins. The converted one your talking about was a 2011. Im sure some other people got one as well. Still wondering about this pic of the new Scorpa though, I did some looking on Google and Bing images and didn't come up with one.

    I actually have the 2011 bike now, and have added the long ride kit for my wife. Brad converted his 2012 to a 200 this year as well...
