  1. Decided to run my Beta Techno 1995 on the road for a while. Have fitted a set of lights that have been bench tested to confirm they are good including the horn. Tried stealing a feed from the power that goes to the electric fan. Have found the voltage to be all over the place from 2 volts with my light loom connected, then 6 volt on the bike alone, and sometimes it will run at 12 volts. The more that is on the lower the volts are?? I have the brown wire from the stator running up to a black box which then comes back out to a silver box that gets very hot. Can anyone confirm how the bike should be wired, or away to sort a viable output that will feed both the fan and lighting loom. I know I could run it on a day-time MOT but will be taking to work and the hours are all over the place. Cheers for any advice offered Lee

    Beta Wont Run

A quick update on what I have found. The w-key is sound. The flywheel was a challenge to remove but came off with a good plastic hammer as to not upset the magnets. The Trigger resistance is spot on, so is the light/fan system. The problem turns out to be a low resistance from the coil power system, it should be 450 but came thru at 250 ish..... Hoping to have it back on Friday to refit and test ride. Cheers for everybodys input, I definatley need to find some better diagrams and info about the electrickery. Lee

    Beta Wont Run

The woodruff key is good hence the fan power supplied. and i can see the flywheel turning. Where does the power for the fan come from if the stator is at fault for the spark????? Can anyone recommend any other tests for the stator, and where could I get it rewound. Cheers

    Beta Wont Run

Here goes.... Have checked for power (wobbly volts) at the coil on the following cables Red=None found Green=24 ish on the multi meter. White=None found These are the cables that come direct from the fly wheel. In addition to the above there is a brown cable that goes to what I would pressume to be rectifier then out to the ???condenser??? which powers the fan. Whats next for me to check?????? Did notice the coil is a ducatti type?? with the 3 cables going in and the stop cable coming out(have diosconnected this out cable to be sure its not the cause) Have removed the spark plug and popped a screwdriver in to see if a spark is present, but no??? Cheers Lee

    Beta Wont Run

where do \i check for the power. There are cables coming up fron the fly wheel, one goes to a black square item with a wholein the centre. this then feeds the fan which runs perminatly. the rest of the cables go to the coil and a box with 3 connections on it. pressume if i kick it over i should find power or should i put a slow drill on the fly wheel??? cheers lee

    Beta Wont Run

Went to start my 1995 250 beta techno this morning, it gave a slight chuff and now wont run. There is power going to the electric fan but no spark. All connections appear good. Can anyone adize on what checks I can carry out to confirm if the coil is good. There is a couple of black boxes under the tank area which I would like to check over as well. Cheers for any advice
  7. Hello to you all. New to the site, jumped the gun and have already thrown a question on to the Beta section. This is my first real effort at trials biking. I have done trials before with the Army but a Harley can be a little restrictive to your abilities. I am based around Warminster, Wilts but spend a lot of time at Stourport, Worcs. I will be looking for a club to join in both areas to get out trialing asap, well as soon as I have sorted a couple of small problems with my Techno. If you see a 4x4 at a trial with my user name on it feel free to give me a nudge as Im looking forward to meeting a few of the members. Cheers Lee
  8. Hello all, New to both trials bikes and to the site. Bought a Beta Techno 250cc (1994) bike a week ago as a problem runner. The previous owner stated that it wouldnt run properly and needed the carb setting up. Being a home (diy) mechanic I have checked over the bike and found a few little niggles, the running problem seemed to be solved by filling up with fuel???(70:1 mix) I have riden it around for about 2 hours and it pulls well, ticks over fine and I thought was ready for a trial. So wrong . Checked the coolant and there is now a fair amount of oil coming to the surface..... Correct me if Im wrong but with a 2 stroke there isnt any direct contact with oil if a gasket fails, could the oil from the gearbox get near the coolant. I am hoping that some fool has filled the topped up the coolant with oil but before I start pulling it apart thought I would get some advice from the experts here What oil would people recommend for the gearbox, I will change all fluids as often as possible. Cheers for any comments. Lee
