    Betarev50

Hi My son has had a beta rev 50 2003 for about a year now it has allways run well for a 50cc but from an 8 year old you never get complaints, it has allways started easily but a few weeks ago i started having problems with it cutting out and being a pain to start. I changed the plug, cleaned the air filter, cleaned the tank and petrol tap and it still did not seem right so i stripped the carb. I noticed the needle had been put on top of the locking white bit of plastic not on top of the slide and the c-clip was on the second notch down i put the needle back in how it should be. The tickover was fine but it bogged down until about 1/3 throttle. I changed the c-clip to the 3rd notch down and it is now much better. I also took the reed valve block out and noticed that on the bottom set of petals i could see a gap so i will order some next week. I have the normal manual but have not found the standard carb settings yet i run 1 1/2 turns out on the mixture screw. We are out on monday for a test so i will see how it runs. One bit of advice though unbolt the rad at the top and cable tie it or if anything hits the rad it rips the lug out of the rad, luckily i got my one ally welded today from a friend but it could be an expensive drop. I have a few other tricks with the clutch to make it easier if you are interested to get kids started. Rob
  2. What year is the 290 is it the type with the blue plastic caps on top of the forks ? I had the same problem as you when i tied my 2001 sherco 290 down hard on my trailer after not having it long. I suspect my fork seals were old and it had been standing for a while before i bought it but the air pressure being held for a long while didn't help. I replaced the seals and changed to a 5w for 2 weeks which seemed a bit soft and then tried 10wt which seemed a little hard. I allready had plenty of fork oil so did a 50-50 mix to make 7.5wt and it was much better. I was supprised that i could tell the difference to be honest. If it is the type with the top blue caps i slightly unscrew my ones when i strap it down now and tighten them back up once it is off the trailer. If you go to the sherco site and the then the support tab and then Waynes help there is a guide to changing the seals. http://www.sherco.com/wayne/Sherco_Fork_Seal_Replacement.pdf Rob

  5. Hi Just thought I would post a bit of useful information. I recently bought a 2000 sherco 250 as Spares/Repair with no spark that I found had a missing ignition pick up coil. The Pick-up coil is unavailable from main dealers, all the other stator repair places I could find and even Motoplat could not repair the stator and recommended an upgrade to the later Leonelli system. After many hours on the web doing research I found that a vespa PX200E uses the same coil and a Ducati/energia stator. I ordered the coil last week, fitted it and the bike started straight away with no problems. I also have a sherco 290 2001 that has the same coil and have ordered a few spares just in case
