311 Oil Change

Featured Replies

I have Montesa Cota 311. Went to change transmission oil and cannot find the drain plug.

Removing case bolt (like I do on my 315R) has no effect (no oil comes out).

Any suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks

Either remove sump guard to get access to drain plug;

or remove clutch cover and tip the bike on its side.

Neither option is ideal, but there you go!

Thanks for the "tip" (pardon the pun). Do you happen to know how much oil to fill it back up? Thanks again

There is a drain plug underneath and the sump gaurd has a hole in it for you to drain the oil watch when tightening it back up as they some times strip the threads the top up bit is beside the kickstart and i think it takes 500ml although i run 800ml in mine i also use auto transmission fluid as i find it helps reduce the clutch drag

I know the newer gas gasers use atf, I didn't know any montesa riders did too.

Do you know what the recommended oil is? I switched to PJ1 Clutch tuner

on my 315R with terrific results. It is about 75 weight I think

I'm not sure what the reccomended oil is, did you get the oil changed ok?

Yes, Thanks. After I pulled the clutch cover off and tipped the bike on its side I discovered the hole

in the bash plate that I couldn't find before. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be so far forward.

I put the PJ1 clutch tuner in (500ml). I told Brad to make sure he put the brakes on before

dropping it into first, but absolutely NO lurch when he did, just snicked into gear. Now it shifts

great. We changed the plug and it fires right up now, he was very happy with the improvements.

We had two events this weeked, he got a second in his class, and I got a 2nd in my my class,

followed by another 2nd today. Very nice weekend. Thanks for your help!!
