Hi all

My boss has bought a what seems to be very original Montesa 247,its been parked in a shed for a few years and it needs a bit of TLC. so im doing a few things that need to be done to it but what I need to know about it first is what year it is so heres the frame number: 21M18677.

but its painted in some very strange colours for a montesa as the tank and mud guards a bright yellow and the very large seat is blue. I dont know whather it has be resprayed these colours later in its life but it sure stands out in a crowd! ;) .

and some other info please

1. What fuel/oil ratio does it run?

2. How much gear box oil should it have and what grade?

3.Whats the spark plug gap and the points gap?

Thanks in advance Danny

It's likely an early '75.

Use 50:1 or 2% for ample lubrication with minimal smoking.

points - 0.4mm (0.016")

plug - 0.5-0.6mm (0.022")

gear oil - SAE 80/90 (300cc)

clutch oil - 200cc ATF (automatic transmission fluid)

If the seat is big it is probably a "T" (trail) model.

The trials model "L" has a 1 gal. tank, the "T" has 2 gals.

The "T" also has extra footpegs on the swing arm.

Same bike, different tank.

Good Luck!

Hi...

Its going well, it runs like a beauty after further examination the bike is in AMAZEING condition it has hardly any chips or scraches that are normally covered over a bike of its age.

The only bad things on it are the frame has been painted red and the tank yellow which looks awful so I gotta get it sand blasted and I gotta spray it black :) .
