DALES CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE CLUB

Trial Results.. 5th June 2010

The 4th round of The Dales Club Championship attracted over 50 competitors to their exclusive venue at Flagg near Buxton on Saturday, although many regulars were absent, saving their bikes, and strength for the following days Reliance PJ1 road trial just over the hills, a few miles away.

The compact but technically challenging course over limestone outcrop has panoramic views over the Derbyshire Dales and was hard and dry for this balmy, late afternoon Saturday event.

Five laps, ten sections, each manned by observers looking to enjoy their "apres trial" festivities with a bottle of "Dales Classic" labeled wine, gifted to encourage their involvement together with "OTF" Paul's burger van complimenting the proceedings.

Concentration and fine control were in order as several riders remained clean as they tackled the final laps of a relatively easily set course.

On both the Clubman and Expert routes the Twinshock Class had to be decided on machine age resulting in wins for Paul "Burger" Beswick on his1972 Ossa and Mick Harrison with his 1974 Yamaha respectively.

Young Master Shelton guided his original looking 1957 rigid Bantam around the Clubman route for just a single dab "Rigid" win as did M.Dickinson on his BSA to win the Unit/Con class.

The Expert Class results revealed that Mick Ash, out on his 250 James, stayed clean for the 2-Stroke win as did Rob Mellor on his Cub for the unit/con Class.

Highlight of the evening was surely the aural delight of the big Trifield being debuted by Mick Attmore, forsaking his usual Villiers Sprite to win the Pre-Unit Experts with a single dab.

It was good to see some unfamiliar names in the results, you know who you are.. Geoff, and several big four-strokes were also brought out for a rumble among the rockery. The course setters, Pete and Rob had an unenviable job at Flagg. The terrain could easily provide a stiff challenge for a modern mono rider but to plot suitable sections for the wide variety of abilities in the club was difficult on a bone dry course without using the full variety of steps and climbs. A touch of rain and we may well have seen far higher marks lost on limestone that would have become very slippery.

Congratulations to all those who had excellent rides going clean or losing just a single mark. Your concentration would normally have been rewarded with a suitable mention in dispatches and an accolade or two. Memo to self.. ride a proper "old" bike.

At the "fun" weekend in August at Carsons Farm it is mooted we may well encourage the regular Clubmen riders, who normally do fairly well, to enter the 50/50 or even Expert classes to give encouragement to our regular Clubmen and beginners to maybe win and receive a few accolades themselves..

Next Championship event is on July 24th at Youlgreave.
