April 17, 201115 yr Hello everyone, I bought a YAMAHA TY 250 1985 but it has no spark. I think that the cdi-unit is defective. I've checked the resistance of the source coil and that's a bit off too (160 ohm in stead of 240 ohms). also I found a crack in the high tension coil but that measures out fine. Can anybody help me? thanks!
April 17, 201115 yr The two coils are "off the shelf" items so it might be easier to start there. Look up the part number of the cdi and see if you can find other bikes that used the same unit. I have never been able to find the specs on a Yamaha cdi unit so they are difficult to substitute. Ebay may be your best bet.
May 7, 201115 yr Here is a good source for Yamaha parts. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1985/TY350N%20-%20TRIALS/ELECTRICAL1/parts.html I notice you mention a TY250, but the only trials model shown is a TY350. The cdi is obsolete but it give you a starting point for part numbers in your search. Look for other Yamaha models of that era and you may find what you need. Good luck
