June 29, 201115 yr hi guys, I own a 2009 model Cabesany replica sherco 290. It has a floating front disc works quite well but is noisy as hell!!!I have put new pads in, deglazed old pads and nothing has worked. the disc has a large amount of freeplay and I'm wondering if new bushes to reduce freeplay would help,what are your ideas??? I have a 2009 3.2 and the front brake rotor has clicked loudly from the beginning. It is kind of a contest between the brake rotor clicking and the bottom of the front fender slapping the tire to see who can make the most noise. The brake rotor and mounting points appear to be as intended from the factory and there is not very much play - but it does make a noticeable (and cheap sounding) noise. I have thought about adding some silicone grease - but was concerned that it would attract dirt and get messy or throw some grease onto the rotor and affect braking. The disc only occasionally squeals - but it clicks all the time.
June 30, 201115 yr Author oh yeah thanks...mine kind of clicks but when the brakes are applied it always makes a loud squeak/screech! I haven't heard the fender slap noise though?

The cure for the squeak/screech is supposed to be riding the bike with the brake applied to get the rotor hot - then run water over the disc to cool it quickly.
June 30, 201115 yr +1 I just did this to my new (to me) GG. Must be a smaller (lighter) rotor than was on my Sherco because it discolored after a short time. Doesn't seem to be a problem, though. Squeaking gone, braking improved 100%. I can hardly believe the previous owner rode it that way.
July 1, 201115 yr Author um have tried bedding the brakes in this way also, but with no success. I know what you mean but!thats how i feel, it is annoying to ride due to the terrible noise it makes!Maybe I should try it again but while holding brakes on for longer and getting more heat into them...
July 1, 201115 yr The "Braking " thin light wave front rotor(as on my '07 shreaks badly it seems. They just seem to resonate! I think they have changed rotors since, but cannot recall when. The heavy disk off a Gasser was the fix early on. Heating and cooling with the water will get you grip, but not silence!
July 1, 201115 yr Sometimes the squeal is caused by reduced grip. That was the case with mine. The heating/wetting thing might work.
July 7, 201115 yr Author hmmm i will look into that gasser disc!i can assure you that the water trick does not work in this case will try that silicone based stuff that goes between the rear of the pad and piston...will keep you posted on the results. i am yet to try some of that 'stop squeak' in a can rubbish but very much doubt that it will work in any way,shape or form!!! July 7, 201115 yr In the absence of stop-squeak goo, I've used plain ol' silicone and it's worked fine. Anything to stop the pads from oscillating.
