Hi Bisby I will do what you suggest if nothing else helps, but I wanted to buy or borrow a socket that fits as Stecks suggested I now know its a 3/4 drive socket as 1/2 only go up to 32 mm.

Thanks again Ian

There are plenty of 1/2" drive 36AF sockets available. Try ebay, I would use an impact type with a full hex.

I just Googled 36mm socket and this lot popped up

http://www.ebay.co.u...w=socket&_dmd=2

Some look as though they are made of mild cheese, but perhaps one of the impact sockets might last long enough to get the sprocket off, and with a bit of luck, back on again. Some of them are driven by 1/2" drives, but I think I'd go for a bigger drive than that...

And on the up side, if you get one, we can all borrow it... ;)
