Villiers Engine Rebuild

Hi, am working on a 30C engine (similar to 8E) . Just put new mains in the crankcases, and drew the 2 crankcases together using longer bolts. Now the r/h crank web (Ignition side) is touching the inside of the crankcase. There were no thrust washers on the crank when I stripped it,and online diagrams show none present. What determines the 'end float' / centralisation of the crank anyway?

Once I tighten the primary drive sprocket fully will that pull the crank away from the opposite case, a quick tighten has already moved it a little....

Thanks in advance, for any help to ease my frustration with this

Endfloat, or more correctly the position the crank actually sits in the cases, is determined solely on the drive side, by the combination of circlip, bearings, spacer, sprocket and case. The 'adjustability' revolves around shims under the drive side nut, altering the thickness of the bearing spacer or adding a gasket between crancase halves.

Many thanks to all of you for the solutions - a mighty relief I can tell you. Me first Villiers project will now not be confined to dark corner of shed. Cheers!
