Just picked up what I beleive to be an '04 txt pro 280 (see below), had a quick search online and can't find any other '04s with white Marzocchi forks?

Bonus! Any idea what year they were introduced? So I know how to service them.

The white fork legs came out in 2011,unless they have been painted, but Marzocchi were fitted from 2004 when they switched to 40mm from 38mm http://www.gasgasmot...odels-1-/2.html this link will take you to handbooks and other info.

Oh cool, they defo don't look like they've been painted so it looks like I have at least 2011 forks then, random.

The stanchions look like 04's. try a magnet to see if they are steel or aluminium,. the ally ones are necked down in diameter between the yokes.

Stantions measure 40mm all the way up and are magnetic, so this means what?

Steel 40mm smoked finish stantions are correct for the year and someone has painted the lower leg white. These are Marzocchi forks, though, and are very good.

I'm pretty sure they've not been painted as they don't look like normal cast aluminum thats been painted. Will the part number on the legs help anyone to ID them for sure? Need to do the fork seals so need to know exactly whats what.

As I remember, the seals are standard for the 40mm GG forks, steel or aluminum. The Marzocchis need to have the oil set by level, not volume and for the steel tubes, I set the level 180mm down from the top of the tube. If you like them springy you can use 5 weight but most riders do well with 7.5 weight.

Thanks, is that 180mm down on both legs?

Spoke to the previous owner today and he has had the forks powder coated white, so I'm all good with the service manual. Whoever done it did a fantastic job!

Yes, both legs. You might consider making this simple tool to hold the spring down when removing/replacing the top cap. That's a bleed tool where the top cap would be screwed on.
