How Far?

Featured Replies

A bit of a whimsical question really. I was watching the video of the Scottish trials and there was some main road riding between venues. I was just wondering how far a field people have been on the road, to or between trials?

I think the furthest we usually had to ride was a fifty or so mile round trip to local events (with a GTX can full of petrol hanging from the trials jacket belt). Wouldn't like to get caught doing that now.

Then there was the trial on top of that which might have been twenty miles perlap on a longer one.

A twenty mile trial? Wow!  Sounds more like an endure..

Were they of a similar format or just much more linear than up and down?

I would ride to trials up to 40 miles plus a trial any thing up to100miles Plus use the bike all week to work  Even went on holiday to the Isle of Man Rode to the ferry and back  Used as transport all week with an evening trial thrown in The Bulto (M49) had all ready done two SSDT's by previous owners and was quick on the road (70plus) My current trials bike is slower ( on tarmac) than my 175 Bulto

I commuted 25 miles per day, 5 days a week to college -  on a Majesty200 Yam in the early 1980's and then swapped sprockets to return to Trials gearing, each Sunday

Thought I had sorted my paper work then my insurance company decided they wouldn't insure without a speedo. The buggers so I will have to delay sending the paper work and ponder what to do.

Last year, Scorpa 125 4t, 32 miles each way to an event with 4 x sub 2 mile lap

Hi Sean 65,go for a Sigma 509,a couple of notes more than the dead cheap ones, but well worth it. Dead easy to set up & reliable. I have 3, on 2 Bulto trail bikes, & on my Bulto road bike. Plenty to see on Ebay. Hope this helps,John.

Recently rode the Arbuthnot trial, its about an 80 mile loop, lovely day out - but a sore a*** for a few days, because most of it is on old unmade drovers roads. Not much on tarmac. Long day on a rigid AJS....

You sit down where you can, but alot of it was up on the pegs... Just got back from the Western Classic MCC Guy Fawkes, only about 30 miles around, but mostly off road. Now feeling very tired and aching.

That sounds great. I must see if they do a local one or at least something similar. Are they open to Enduros or just trials? I now have my bike road registered which is great and should allow me a degree. of flexibility.
