January 23, 201610 yr Its definitely a push rather than a kick as said above, I expect they could be started by hand but I've not tried. Can be done but the lever is painful even wearing a glove.
January 23, 201610 yr I've removed mine and fitted a lanyard switch, so yes I guess. Why? Bike is easier to start if stopped via kill button/lanyard rather than deliberately stalling it.

January 31, 201610 yr Author Visited the bike yesterday at the dealer, dropped a deposit, started it. Just like you guys report, and I fully believed you, just a soft push. Man, that compression lowering for starting is amazing, that thing turns over softer than a lawn mower. I'll be riding around in a week or two, lucky our winter is nearly non-existent this year.
