No Spark On A Easy 280(1997)

Featured Replies

I have a Scorpa Easy 280 with a Rotax engine. It was running fine and then just cut out, after checking the plug etc. I just could not get a spark. I contacted the dealer to find out the best way forward but no good unless I am prepared to replace all the electrics a bit at a time.

Has anyone out there got any history with such a problem?

The quick and dirty way (I'm gonna catch hell for this) is to disconnect the hot lead from the mag at the coil. Hold it in your hand and give a good kick.

If you get zapped, your mag is probably working and your coil is suspect.

If there's no zap, you could try the lead from the mag to the 'black box'.

If you don't get zapped there, it's probably your stator.

There is a certain amount of conjecture on my part here, because I've only done this on bikes with points, but I suppose it would work for electronic.

I'm assuming you checked the sparkplug and cap (and connection at the cap) first.

The Spark is Back !!!

After a long process of gathering info. and avoiding a costly exercise of replacing parts to clear the fault It is fixed and up and running.

For those of you out there who might be unfortunate to have the same problem, This is how it was solved.

1. Got on the interenet to Trials Australia / Tech Tips and read Chris L Johnson's report regarding the Analog control Unit on a Scorpa, which in not so many words says YOU DONT NEED IT. That was one thing out of the way at
