September 9, 20178 yr hi i've just bought a 2011 beta evo 250 after start up the fan comes on soon after and seems to run all the time is this normal? had a couple of good ride outs and the plug seems black and oily and advice on this?? thanks
September 9, 20178 yr The two seem at odds. Sounds like two issues that are unrelated. Things we need to know assuming this is a two stroke, How does the bike run? Pinging or knocking on run up under load? Smoky and bogging? What plug do you have? Have you tried a fresh plug? Black oily plug is usually jetting, oil mixture, incorrect plug, blocked exhaust, crank seal/case leak allowing gear oil into crankcase. What are you using for premix oil and ratio? Typically I run 100:1 Bel-Ray H1R. Most guys run between 80:1 > 100:1. Depends on how you ride. Fast trail riding is much different than plonking through sections. Is your coolant topped off? Best to use a propylene glycol mixture like Silkolene Pro-Cool or Engine Ice. NO TAP WATER!!! Only use deionized water. Have you checked your water pump housing/rotor? Betas tend to corrode the pump housing and the plastic rotor gets easily stripped. Jitsie makes a larger metal water pump kit. Highly recommended.
September 9, 20178 yr Author i've just got the bike it's a 2 stroke tried a fresh plug BR7 ES the bike seems to run really well no pinging or knocking or bogging i'm going to drain and flush coolant and will invest in the jitsie water pump housing kit
September 9, 20178 yr If your fan is stuck on it could be overcooling the engine causing the inside to be black and oily. Many find a hotter plug like a BP5ES better for gentle riding. Is your air filter dirty / clogged. The 2011 may come jetted to run at 25;1 fuel to oil mix. If this is the case and you are running less oil this means it will run rich until you change jetting to suit less oil. Check the float height.
