Hi I have a rear kick minarelli 156 powered fantic 200.

 

Starts fine and seems to run ok, well until the kick start broke off. I decided it is a good time to investigate the transmission oil leak before searching for a kick start. The oil is coming from the gear change shaft seal. The seal is being held in place by what looks like metal glue, as a result of damage to tbe engine case.

Apart from continually scanning ebay, has anyone any idea where I can source a left hand engine case, or maybe there is a miracle worker out there able to fix these things. I dont want to pull it apart unless there is a good chance of repair.

Is it worth trying a new seal in there?

I would have to get that crap off if it were mine...might end up putting some back on as last resort.

Cases are hard to come by, repair is your best shot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I would agree with cangy1000, clean area fully, then carefully remove the old seal. Then replace and then build up the surrounding area and above the seal location with a good quality chemical metal repair such as Belzona.

Tig welded mine then had remachined , been fine since. have a look for a  local

engineering shop

Like the tig weld idea, if I split crankcases its a defo. Meantime will try the metal putty option. Here is the old stuff removed, it came off easily!

You cant replace one crankcase - they are machined as a pair. I would agree that having it Tig welded and re-machined would be the best solution.

ok so here's the first attempt at a repair....

Make a shim: take an aluminium tube (from and extending hose brush) , OD 22mm, ID 20mm, cut off 7mm length and epoxy it into the recess.

Obtain a smaller oil seal, add a bit of hylomar to the outside of seal and fit.

It's not leaking anymore. will see how it goes. Total cost to me so far... zero plus oil seal. I suspect if it fails I will get a shim machined  to fit properly.
