January 5, 200620 yr I have replaced rubber band on rim .I have made sure band is down,but still cant get it to seal.I was wondering is there some trick to getting these bands to seal.If I pump tire pressure high it holds,but when I decrease pressure it leaks (the rim is on a 2005 200 gas gas)
January 5, 200620 yr Take the tyre off, Sikaflex both edges of the band and smooth in with your finger, take the valve out and put a little Sikaflex under that and replace. Leave all this for a day to dry and pop your tyre back on..hey presto job done. It's the best way to fix this age old problem.

January 5, 200620 yr Or you could just go and buy a new rim tape and clean everything up spotless and pop it on only to find it still leaks I think even John Lamkpkin recommends Sikaflexing. The rear wheels fitted to GG, Scorpa, Beta, Sherco are all the same with the same poor design flaw.

January 5, 200620 yr Marky and I disagree on this. My view is that the guy in the factory never uses sikaflex and no body worries aboutor changes the set up until it leaks. My concern over themethod would be if it didn't seal and needed a second go, messy? If it needed the goo then it would probably have it from new. I do like my wheels as true as possible and therefore prefer to take the tape off every so often, then refit mostly new. If you follow the directions given by Wayne Thais on the sherco usa website thats a good starting point. However IMHO its a choice thing there is no right or wrong here just personal preference.

January 5, 200620 yr The best way to seal the rim is to clean the rubber band and the rim thoroughly and fit the band to the rim using plenty of tyre soap, seal the valve with silicone. Job done.
