November 15, 20241 yr Hi there! I just bought a Scorpa SY 250´01 in decent shape. Love the bike, fits my old school riding style very well! 🙂 Now I have a little problem: While sorting the rear shock I took off the subframe and damaged a little transistor that is connected to the fan. 2 of the 3 little pins just broke off! Can someone tell what kind of transistor this is (Type or description?) and where I can buy it? Maybe at a local electronics shop? Also, i need to know where the 3 cables(colors) are connected!? What is the transistor actually needed for? If someone can answer theses questions, that would be great! Thanks in advance!
November 15, 20241 yr Your engine outputs alternating current and the fan runs on direct current, the little black box connected to the fan will be a rectifier/regulator. Function is to convert the AC to DC and typically to limit the voltage so the fan can run on 12 volts DC Power output from the engine alternator is called 'dirty', voltage will be all over the place, job of the rectifier is to change AC to DC and the job of the regulator is to limit the peak voltage. Rectifier uses Diodes ( semiconductor that allows current to flow in one direction.) Regulator uses various transistor semiconductors to send excess voltage to ground and dissipate heat which is a byproduct of that process. Edited November 15, 20241 yr by lemur
November 15, 20241 yr Not a very expensive part, If it has 3 wire connections, 2 of them will be AC input tabs, one will be a DC positive output tab and the mounting point will provide the chassis ground or DC negative.
