Getting An 11 Yo Into Bicycle Trials

Not really a motorcycle trials question, but..

I have an 11 yo who's sports mad (I also have a 13 yo whose idea of sport involves playstations). The 11 yo has a nice'ish BMX bike. So where can I look on the web for some sites that will describe tricks and techniques that he can practice on that bike to get him into trials. Sadly there's no cyclo trials scene in Auckland so that won't work nor am I going to spend NZD2,500 on a specialist trials bicycle until there's some indication of committment on his part.

Billy, you'd probably have a good idea where to start.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The sites will be a great help. I was dragged down to the local BMX track today where he had a ball. Later (when it was cooler) it was my turn and he played too. Simple stuff. Two bricks 1" apart sort of stuff. I keep trying to tell him to practice balancing but I suppose asking any 11yo to stand still for as long as possible is a long shot! We'll get there.

Back to my poll. PeterB (and others) have suggested when hopping the front wheel I keep my back straight. Something I couldn't quite get my head around. But by pulling back slightly I made the the berakthrough. I hope. It's easier and more consistant now. So now it's a case of polishing. I can also place the back wheel near inch perfect within 90deg.

So, progress.

Hi di ho there good neighbour,

our lad started doing lots of tricks on his BMX after a little instruction on how to hop the front and rear wheels, something that you can easily do now! After showing him the Ot Pi video, he was hooked, pop over and borrow it sometime, have a few others too, like Hans Rey.

Ta ta, PeterB.
