What is a good alternative to a TY 175 fork, I know many replace them with TY 250 fork but since there so few of them avalable maybe there is an alternative that does not require me to sell my home to buy Guy

After 16 years it's back! This thing endured my father, my brother and myself without any real engine work or maintenance. It just kept going. Some of my earliest memories are of my father sitting me on the gas tank and putting around the woods. I still remember back when I was 12 or 13 and kicking it over for the first time and taking off in the woods for the rest of the day - my dad's rule was that if I was big enough to start it, I was big enough to ride it. Any ideas of the correct color for the frame on a TY 350?

I'm a little confused as to what I should run for the ring gap. I'm using an aftermarket wossner forged piston, 71.44mm. Their online ring gap calculator gives the following suggestions: naturally aspirated: 0.29mm (0.0113 in) naturally aspirated racing: 0.32mm (0.0127 in) snow/marine: 0.36mm (0.0141 in) forced induction: 0.39mm (0.0155 in) heavy load/high heat: 0.43mm (0.0169 in) I'm guessing since it's air cooled I should go for 0.43mm (0.0169 in). Frustrated .... '74 Yamaha TY250 Trials ran fine but a little flat at top end. Decided to try a CDI kit to get better performance. Installed the CDI kit and wouldn't start. I rechecked and set the timing with a strobe lite and turned the crank using a drill with socket in the CCW direction. Prior to timing, checked and marked TDC and .122" piston BTDC location on crank case. Next I pulled the spark plug. With the plug grounded to case i see a nice blue arc when i use the kick starter. After kicking my leg tired. Pulled the plug and it was wet. I pulled the plug and let the cylinder air out overnight and tried the next morning. No start. the kill switch in not part of the…

I have a TY250A with two spark plug holes. Did they come that way or could it be an aftermarket head? Online parts lists don't seem to show two but a drawing in the service manual looks to have two. I remember having a DT1 with a compression release but don't know if it was OEM or after market.

I,m thinking about buying the foot pegs for my TY250A from sammy miller products.Do they make a noticeable difference in foot position and handling?

Hi. I have been eyeing the WES exhaust systems, both the single unit to replace the stock silencer, the two piece mid section with separate silencer, or just the silencer I was wondering the benefits of the different systems, and other than being much lighter, are there differences internally from the OEM muffler? Does the replacement muffler noticeably quiet the system down? Is a new exhaust required as well to fit the new system? Sorry for the basic questions, but I’ve seen a lot of them fitted to TY’s but was wondering if they really made a big difference TIA! 🍻

Can you buy a modern throttle and cable for a TY250 with original Teikei carb? The only cable I see available is for the original throttle. Or do you buy a Domino or Amal throttle and make your own cable? Are cables somewhat standard between carbs such that if I move on to a mikuni or OKO would the same cable work? Are other carbs an improvement over the Teikei? I'm not seeing Teikei jets or parts available so it make be best to change anyway.

Fitted a DT100 case but find the TY kickstart splines dont protrude through enough and that I can pull the kickstart shaft out by 10mm, I could space that out with a teflon spacer but does anyone know if the RT or DT100 (or early dt175 twin shock) kickstart shaft is longer than the standard TY shaft? Or do these models have different crankcases that positions the kickstart shaft further out with the correct clearance to the clutch case? Has anyone successfully extended a kickstart shaft by cutting, welding in a new section? Looks like the kickstart shaft would have to be about 10mm longer than std TY175 to use these older cases. hi as your aware the bush wears in the gear linkage cover on the tys especially the ty175 there is some fixes but some are expensive ive tried something that works superbly and makes gear changeing a lot more responsive as the main oil seal is behind the cover the outer oil seal behind the lever is more of a dust seal as no oil should be behind the cover if it is then the inner seal has gone . i removed the outer seal and fitted a 12mm x 19mm x12mm bearing that i pressed into the casing where the external oil seal should be pressed it in with my vice and two pieces of wood so not to damage, the bearing fits tight and the shaft is nice and snug this allowing the gea…

Hey all, I have two '74 TY 250's one with frame/engine VIN that match (the full 434-000245) and one with the full frame vin (434-015952) and no number stamped on the motor case pad. It has the factory raised fins in that area (hasn't been modified)- just no stamping. Both of these bikes are original - no indication that they were ever used for more than recreational riding. Also, the barrel on the one with no numbers also has fins all the way around (above the exhaust port) while the other has a gap in the fins in that area. both of these are the full wide case early models. I have a new to me TY250A twin shock and the rear sprocket lightly rubs on the swing arm. Do they normally have very little clearance? The bike appears unmolested and with low hours. The axle hardware/ spacers match what is shown on the part list. The rear sprocket is steel, looks original and is marked PORTCO YA-311-53. The sprocket runs reasonable true and is not bent. My attempt to check sprocket alignment with a home improvement type laser suggests that the rear sprocket is about 1.5 mm farther out than the front sprocket. Is there something else to consider before installing a 1.5 mm spacer or taking 1.5 mm off of the mounting surface of the sprocket? Purely …

A few years ago I bought a TY125 to learn how to ride and as I've got new bikes it's just been pushed to the back of the shed. However, I dug it out today and am curious ... What year the bike is? How common are they? What colour/decals they should have for their year? Is the bike mechanically the same as the TY250 except for the barrel? Are all TY125's gutless or is it just mine? The bike is tatty and mechanically not brilliant.
