General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by NoTraction,

Good Evening All! I just wanted to say a big thank you to every one who felt like they were getting their ‘virtual ears bent’ with my relentless questions regarding bike options. I know I was slightly repetitive at times as I tried every different angle possible to work out what new bike I should buy as I continue on my trials ‘journey’. I appreciate all the advice given and as a result I am now the proud new owner of the 2020 Beta Evo 200 pictured below. I am now looking forward, as Chris CH suggested, to start obsessing about balance rather than bikes and can’t wait to get out on it! Thank you all 😀

I am looking for info to help setup a Youth Trials Program, both competitive and fun. In the US where I am from the youth program has some difficulty with Club rules and local government age restrictions. It really lacks IMO. What I am looking for in particular is how some youth programs are setup so we may use it as a model to setup our own. Ages and competition info would also be helpful. It seems in Europe in particular the UK where Trials is most popular that there must be some great Youth programs. Any ideas?

Need some new tyres so going to get some michelin X11's (for road) however im not sure of the best way to remove them and re-fit the new ones? I see lots of topics about fitting the rear tyre but dont fully understand what people are talking about! Is there a guide anywhere on the internet that can help? I dont mind spending a bit of money on the right tools to make the job easier. Thanks in advance! Tom

Hello Just got a lateish TY175 for a bit of 'lost youth' type fun but has the following problem. It starts runs and rides great for about 20mins then cuts out and won't start again until cold and does the whole routine again!! Should i lash out on an eletronic ignition conversion and solve this and possibly future problems, or is itlikley to be mush simpler - eg new condenser or coil??? Thanks

alot of people think that the kickstart's "proper" side is the right hand side, what do all you lot think? Personally I think Beta have got it right, I ride a gas gas now and much prefer it but I think for a trials bike, the kickstart should be on the left, quite simply because the rear brake is on the right! it allows you to keep full rear brake on and kick the bike up thus saving you a 5! All the best Tom

  9. I ride in BC and spend time climbing logging roads even when I'm on a trials bike.... I've been told that 4 strokes are better at not overheating on long climbs, what kind of experiences do you guys have? I used to ride a GG280 and it would overheat after about 5 minutes in 5th, sometimes 1 minute! I really don't want a seat, I love trials bikes! Thanks in advance for any experience you guys can offer.

Hi, I live in Spain at the time and need a Trials bike for the 3 months im here. I have found a guy that is willing to rent his bike out for me, but he says i have to pay the price of the bike as a deposit in case anything happens to the bike.. And of couse i understand that, but still i am going to rent it. The bike is a Sherco 2.9 Cabestany Replica 2007 mod. It is in fine shape, and as we all know Sherco is quality! So, I am going to rent it for about 2,5 months and he have never rented out a bike before, I also never rented one before. So what do you think a fair price would be to rent it for 2,5 months? He said he didnt want to go under 10 euros per day, which i th…

  16. Hi my son is looking for a new ish bike 2012-onwards. He's been riding a ty175 and is very proficient on that and also on my rev3 270. Im looking for advice on size and make if possible, he obviously goes for looks but i would rather him have a bike that is reliable and good to ride. There is no intention to ride on the road so I was thinking 125-200. He's looking at purchase on HP via me of course. All ideas welcome. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Started by the addict,

Recently bought a new IRC rear, went down 4 or five times on Sunday as well as jumping of the rim? I could maybe understand hitting a big step but we rode mainly mud sections and roots. I have since heard there has been a problem with them or some of them, and as these are my preferred tyre has anyone found any tips about keeping them on the rims or preventing them deflating? Thanks

I'm hoping to start some easy club trials next year and in the mean time I would like to get involved in some observing, could someone advise me on the scoring, I know that 1 dab = 1 2dabs = 2 and footing = 3 stopping with feet down =5, but what about stopping and reversing with feet up and other technical tricks, I remember back in time that the front wheel spindle had to be moving forward or it was a 5 but has it changed in club trials.
