General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by Johnnygunn,

Good day all! New to the page and new to trials. I have kept up with it and watched, along with many forms of two wheeled racing, since I was about 10, as I am a total motorcycle enthusiasts! However I know nothing about bike selection, settings, what to look for, certain techniques, etc. So, I'm looking for some helpful direction. Some of my background: 32, 210lb, 6'3", have ridden offroad (US gncc/enduro) and motocross for 23 years. I have owned and ridden 250 and 300cc two strokes, as well as 450s and now a 350cc four stroke. I am by no means a pro or A level, but I am confident and competent enough to handle all obstacles (in my way 🎵) locally and get my money b…

Just noticed that I have racked up 101 posts on here. p****d off that I waffled my way through #100 and didn't even notice. Sorry if I've bored anyone with this or any of my other missives along the way......

Looking at picking up a sherco or gasgas, butfinding it hard to get a decent deal on a 250/280, but there seems to be loads of 125s around at good money. Would a 125 be big enough or would you get bored on them quickly? Im around 5'10" and 160lbs i think. . . . would i need the bigger cc's? Cheers

Hi I'm a novice riding a old twinshock, Id like to own a newer bike & assumed a 250 would be the obvious choice. Secondhand bikes within my budget (ideally £1500-£2000) there's more 125s & 280/300s than 250cc advertised. tapping in to your experience what would you choose? Cheers

just out of sheer curiosity what are peoples views on 125 and 200cc bikes for grown ups? long and short is that i grew up riding trials and a few years ago came back to it with a beta 270 and now a 2010 sherco 290, although i havnt ridden for 2 years due to all the covid issues. i'm 55, about 12'ish stone (76kg/168lbs) and only out to have fun in local club events, i ride novice. i'm now looking to sell my sherco and trade up to a slightly newer bike, something around 2015. i like the 290 but it is a handful, i was wondering about getting a 250 but lately i've been wondering if a 125 sherco might be a better bike for me, i would say the beta 200 would be perfect …

I recently picked up an 04 GasGas TxtPro Raga 300 and am interested in finding a bike for my wife as well. She is a competent singletrack/enduro rider, intermediate I'd say. Trouble is, she's petite - 5'-2" and 120lbs. Good shape but not the strongest. She can't even kick my 300 over. I'm interested in picking up a smaller displacement bike that might be easier for her to start. We live at 5,000ft elevation and could ride as high as 10,000ft. I prefer to go gas over electric, we do a lot of extended trips deep in the mountains or desert far away from a charging source. Would a 125 have too little power, especially considering our elevation? I'm leaning tow…

Could you help me please. I am new to trials and have a friend selling a couple of Beta Rev 3's; one a 250, the other a 125. Which would be best for beginner? I'm 6'3" and weigh 14 stone. I am more interested in improving my technical, low-speed riding (banks with roots, smallish rocks, etc) rather than doing huge step-ups. The 125 sounds more suitable but will it handle my weight? Will the 250 spin-up too much? I have also been told that if I want to enter a trials competition then I cannot on a 125 as they are for under-16's only. Is that right? The 250 is a 2005 and has been used once. It is truly immaculate. He wants

I'm coming back to trials after a short break (44 years), so I have to consider myself a total novice. One piece of advice I was given was to go for a 125 bike as it would be sufficient power but not enough to bite me. I have a little bit of a reservation about this. Is a 250 really going to be that unfriendly (I'm well aware of the need to avoid a 280/290/300)? I weigh about 80kg in riding gear, so rather more than the average youth rider that the 125s are aimed at, I would have thought. So as well as having to drag around a bit of extra weight, is a 125 going to be too lightly sprung for me?

Hey guys, I need some advice. Im 16 and am riding a 2001 rev 3 250 but I am looking to upgrade to the likes of a 2008 rev 3, I really want a 125 because it is said that the 125 makes you work the bike but others say that I will probably want a 250 in about a year due to aparent lack of power and me and the old man cannot afford to change bikes every year so I need a bike that I wont want to replace within a couple of years. Preferably I would like to stick with Beta as we know the dealer and he is such a great guy. would also consider an 09 evo but im unsure on the 125/250 thing so any advice would be awesome. Cheers Brad.

Right, The thing is my 02 gasser 125 pro, keeps dying out on me, has no bottom end power. Im selling my bike due to this, and planning on getting a 250. Surely this will have the bottom end power i need. For example, a section: Steep short drop down into river, turn at bottom of drop, over a few rocks, turn and up and out. I did it all fine upuntil the up and out part, after going slow on low revs over the rocks when i clipped the throttle bakc it just died out on me. Is it more cubic capacity that i need, or a mod on my 125??? Any help greatly appreciated Rich
