General Trials Talk

Ive recently aquired a Trials bike and have had some practice on flat ground to get used to it. Ive noticed a problem when i pull the clutch right into select 1st or whatever gear from neutral, the bike wants to ride away. Could someone give me some adive on what this could be as I'm new to motorbikes. Ive tried adjusting the clutch srcrew at either end of the hydraulic cable but there is no improvement. Any help would be marvelous.

Guys Just courious , what would happen if you swopped your VM26 Mikuni for a slightly bigger VM28 Mikuni carb ? Cheers Greg Reason for question I can buy a 28 for a lot cheaper than a 26 ... and then jet to suit !

Heres a question, while i was sat at a section on my electric trials bike a rider pulled up alongside me and said, do i know if his lad could ride one of the electric bikes in the youth class! interesting point i didnt have the answer but the bike has a power switch each position is equivalent to 80cc. 125cc, 250cc and 300cc so in theory it covers all classes but i still dont know the answer to the question and i wonder if the ACU has ever thought about it

Hello..... I've just aquired a 2007 Sherco 125 for my son the other day. When I got it there was no clutch, in that when the bike was running and you put it in gear, the bike would surge forward even with the clutch lever pulled in. I drained the oil, and stripped the clutch down and noted that all the plates were stuck together and had to be prised apart from each other. Gave the plates a clean in petrol, coated them in fresh gear oil and put the clutch back together. I've put 450ml of fresh IPONE Box2 Synthesis oil back into the engine (as recommended by dealer). I ran the engine for about 15 minutes, and noted that initially the clutch was dragging almost as bad as b…

A quick question. Are iridium plugs worth paying 5-6 times the price of regular spark plugs. Currently i am running an NGK and have run Nippon Denso in the past. I have a sherco 290 08 with the keihin flatslide carb as is run on the cab. models. Thanks in advance

I am getting back into trials after riding a little bit as a youth. I have read all the 'best newb bike' posts here. Ideally I would like a 200 or 250. In my price range there are very few of those available. The majority are 125's or 270-300's. I am fairly light at 144lbs (9.5 stones?) and 5'10". Also I am wayyy to old to worry about being required to ride a 125 What do you think? 125 or larger CC bike? Thanks for the input!

Been in/around trials for over thirty years. Thought I had seen it all heard it all! So, I met this guy at a motorcycle store here in the USA, he heard my Scots accent and starts to chat with me. He starts talking about trials and how when he was stationed in the UK during the second WWII he and his fellow air force buddies used to hang around some British trials guys. Idles the fork leg have to bee moved to refill oil .. I've seen some dirt bikes where they simply remove the nut at top of leg and pour in with folks still in yolks and attached to bike ?? Thanks

Someone recently lent me a screwdriver at a trial but there wasn't really the chance to engage in conversation about where he got it - it was a 5mm Allen key with a screwdriver blade on the long end - a most useful thing to carry. I can't see anything like it on the net but does anyone know where these can be obtained? It didn't look home made, being chrome plated.

I'll keep this brief since I've asked far too many bearing-related questions here recently: How do I remove siezed upper linkage bearings (where the linkage connects to the swingarm) on a '99 GasGas 270TXT without a bearing press/puller? Is it possible? Would heat and perseverence work? They can't be drifted out 'cos the bearing is flush with the swingarm casting. Once again, I'm totally unworthy...

What ever happened to Freddie Crosset? I remember him winning two US National Championships back to back and I haven't heard his name mentioned since. He was a great rider and I enjoyed watching him ride at the US Nationals in Sequatchie. I was looking through some older Trials Competition Magazines last night and saw him winning everywhere back in '01 and '02. Where is he now?

Only got last weeks TMX today, flyer in it for the new trialsworld (?) mag, the subscription looks like a good deal, 30nicker for 12 issues and ya get a pair of Hebo Trials gloves thrown in to boot! billy-bargain! Can't wait to get it, not enough trials publications out there, hope it gets good support, and therefore stays around.

I am going to the French 4 Day on June 14th. Does anyone know what paperwork i need to take with me, eg insurance documents, v5 etc? I understand the bike needs working lights also. How strict are they on this? Am very much looking forward to my first trial abroad and dont want to spoil it by not having all the necessary documents. Also does anyone know if any spares will be available at the start?
