General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by NoTraction,

Well, I got to take the new (to me) 2020 200 Evo out today to Milton Buzzard practice ground. What a bike! It’s just lovely, the front end is as light as a feather and the power is pretty smooth. It’s a revelation compared to my Rev3. Already managed to bin it though! Promised myself to not try anything I’m not confident with, at least for the first couple of outings so I could avoid dropping it. But then, I went over a log, no more than probably 12” or so in diameter, misplaced my front wheel on landing and went down in a hole beside the track. Bike up in the air, bar end straight in the thigh on landing. Ouch! Big lump there now! And, when I picked the bike up, som…

I've got a Belstaff 500 (nylon Trialsmaster) in red to go with the trusty fantic , and I was wondering if anyone has ever washed one , as long it is air dried I can't see any real harm in it ... Any ideas or experiances ?

Hey Guys, I'm 6ft 3. If i stand up straight on my 4RT i can't hold on to the bars - have to bend forward to grab them properly. Just been watching a Trial at my local club - all the experts seem to be able to stand completely straight up and hold the bars without bending. This seems to help them "manhandle" the bike over the rocks etc I have the "highest" Renthal bars... Does it matter in the slightest? Should i / can i get "extenders" that will bring the bars towards me and what is the correct setup? Jza

  5. Hi Guys Just a funny thread to keep the sprits up ... whats the funniest or most bother you got in , using the other halfs kitchen [or mums] to help prepare or fix your bike ? Mine , was the look on my mums face , when she came back from shopping to see a pan of black oilly goo on the cooker and me trying to lower a chain into it ... yes you've got it ... good olde "Link Life" ..what ever happened to that ! ... did I get it in the neck or what ... almost as much trouble as getting caught in the bathroom using the shower to spray the "Gunk" off my frame ... thinking back , what was I thinking ...should have been using Jizzer LOL , Come on lads lets here those "crankc…

im looking for some advise with making a fuel tank from fibreglass. my cheap chinese quad (sorry this isnt a trials bike) has developed a split in the tank. this bike has been very well looked after and has thus served me 3000 miles with no faults untill now (tho i realise you get what you pay for). i could just weld the tank up but i like the idea of making one out of fibreglass, the metal one makes noise with vibration (probable cause of the split) how easy is it to recreate a tank. i can use the fuel tap and cap from the exsisting one but i've no idea how to take a sample for the shape. any advise would be most aprecieated. ps unfortunately you can't buy new ones for t…

Hello! I was directed here by Google, sorry if it’s the wrong place to ask the question! I have an Oset bike, 24 Senior, we bought it in July 2020. It was used a few times only and then its engine was stuck, gave out some u happy smoke and my husband had to literally carry it home. 🫣 Since then we had it in storage, it looks fine otherwise and because nobody’s going to use it we thought of selling it for spares. Is it a viable idea or…? Thank you!

Hi Everyone. I had convinced myself that I wanted a Montesa 2001+. There seem to be fewer of these about though. Everything on E bay seems to be in the North. Which 250 would be good for me, coming back to trials after a very long (30 years) lay off. A guy from the forum gave me some good advice about the Montesa, and he had one for sale which I have to say tempts me.. I need to free my garage up by selling a car which currently lives in there. I was told that the Beats could be a handful, have they calmed them down in the 21st Century, could I calm it down with lower gearing and a slow throttle? I heard that second hand Gas gas can be trouble, from a build quality po…

I have seen some sealed stainless steel wheel bearings (6004) advertised on the internet and wondered if anyone knows if they last longer than normal steel bearings. Fred.

Firstly i would invite you to read this link : http://www.advrider....ad.php?t=861765 This is a segment from the link above "Basically, one way to test the fuel screw circuit is during a sudden 100% full throttle snap from idle check. The vacuum of the engine will draw fuel INITIALLY from the fuel screw circuit (the progression circuit in delortto speak) and if too lean, the engine will bog and or die. If too rich, the revs will just build slow. Its very easy to detect a lean bog , so thats what you use as a indicator - so you start from a known lean condition and work towards getting rid of it. Ideally, what you want, is enough fuel to prevent a lean condition during t…

Bought a set of DP friction plates for my GasGas Pro in the week from my local bike shop after fitting them to the bike I realized they were slightly out of tolerance. The pack measured 9.66mm (should be 9.75/9.85mm), they were only 0.09mm under bottom limit but I thought i'd email DP direct and let them know as they state that the set should be within tolerance right out of the box. Got an email back the same day from the Technical Director stating that they're quality control and customer service is very important to them and that they'll send me a new set out right away, no charge, no questions. And sure enough the very next day a new set arrived at my door which was i…

I have the fortune to ride in an absolutely epic OHV area near San Diego called McCain Valley. Huge slab Rick mountains with endless possibilities. I picked up trials earlier this year after many years of Moto. I was really feeling the flow on my trusty Beta Techno. There a parking area right next to a giant slab/ hill. You could roll up with a '15 CRF450 and it won't get nearly the attention that even a 18 yr old trials bike brings! People always come over to talk about it. Well a buddy of mine always advises against 'parking lot heroics' because you'll have a big audience to watch you fail. I think it's good practice for being 'observed'. Well I put on an impressive…

I'm having recurring problems with my '99 Gasser 270. The bike starts easily (first kick, hot or cold) and runs fine at low revs. However, wind it up and she coughs and splutters like a fifty-woodbines-a-day asthmatic. Main jet clogged, right? Well, last night I stripped the carb for the umpteenth time and while I did find some crap in there, the jets were basically OK. I also checked the manifolds for air leaks and all seems to be fine. Finally I pulled the plug and it's jet black with significant carbon build up. Hmm. I removed the silencer and there's a lot of carbon and oily slime in there (and I only re-packed it a couple of weeks ago). Come to think of it, it *has…

In our club events we run Novice and Intermediates in the morning with the Advance and Expert riders observing, then change the positions for the afternoon. While observing this weekends morning riders the points grabber was a rock against a tree on a tight downhill corner, the amount of riders who lost three dabs at this point was unbelievable, many would loose three without moving. My point on this is if your going to dab, dab!! keep it down get thi sen set up and set off, look where your going to dab, try to always dab on the inside of the turn, put it down firmly on a rock or solid ground and get the most out of the dab you can. If you dab on the outside of the turn…

Local trials specialist fitted a new clutch & clutch hose as part of diagnosing killer drag issues. Today's the second time I've taken the bike out... .. and suddenly no clutch. The fluid running down the hose reveals the brake line has worked itself loose. FFS. Should the union have a copper washer, loctite, PTFE, fernox or something else to stop this happening?
