  1. Pete keeps on at me for us to do some mods, make it better, how it should have been if he'd known then what he knows now. Move the shock mounts and footrests, fit some Rockshocks (and he's now even mentioned Duncan's new REH forks) and a few other bits. I'm not sure - do I keep it original or is it still original if Pete does the mods with me? Derrick wants to just restore it but as I paid for it and Pete made it there's a good chance Dek will be outvoted.

If/when I get round to doing it I'll put some bits on here - but don't anyone be holding their breath for me, this restoration malarky needs some serious thinking and tea drinking time.

Sounds to me like an offer too good to refuse. It'd be great to see what an updated/upgraded Dalesman (from the man himself) would look like.

  2. Dave, I think your memory ain't what it used to be (neither is mine) - the model 85 was the very 1st Alpina from '71, a 250, which was largely a Sherpa T but with larger tank & seat & wider ratio (matador) gearbox. The 1st model 350 Alpina like you had was the M99.

  3. Honda specs for TLR200 state rake 26.5deg, trail 86mm, wheelbase 1315mm, ground clearance 300mm, seat ht 780mm

    For comparison, a TY250 twinshock has 26.5deg rake, 90mm trail, 1295mm w'base, 280mm gr clear, 760mm seat ht

You wanted "simple mods" to improve it. If you mean for trials competition & for a beginner, these should help (many already suggested):

    Remove airbox lid

    Increase pilot jet

Adjust cam timing 6degs (diff cam sprocket)

Remove lighting equipment, especially from the front end, at least when in competition

Try sliding forks up thro triples/yokes about 20mm (reduces rake, trail, wheelbase & ground clearance slightly)

Footpegs rearset/lowered (bolt-on ones are avialable for the TLR200 from tyoffroad)

    Decent trials tyres

Those are all reversible if you don't like them

Beyond that, removing weight would be a priority, but could be quite expensive:

    Lighter bars

Lighter tank-seat unit (should also lower seat ht)

Lighter exhaust (should also improve performance)

    Alloy rims

  4. Hi Folks,

I've been trying to find the thread, "TLR200 mods - what works & what's just bling" (or something like that), to no avail.

Am I thick or has it been deleted?

    Or can anyone locate it?

    cheers

  5. Hi,

Sorry - but this is another negative that has 'lost' the identity so, from memory, it was an 'Old Codgers' or 'Three Musketeers' trial, probably around 1996-7.

Does anybody recognise the rider of the Cheetah?

    Enjoy.

Looks to me like the same bike as in the post above it (#5) Deryk.

Nice pic of the BSA Cheetah too

  6. More if you want them!

    Yes please!

Thanks to all for the pics posted, but for those of us on the other side of the planet who can only wish they could be there, we'd love to see plenty more. Great bikes to feast the eyes on!

  7. I have always wondered why with the company's knowledge of electronic ignition they kept with the points for Trials models. Cost could be an issue but I suspect that the performance gains were just not worth the change with these relatively low revving engines. I would be interested to know more.

    Stuart

The points ign was said (by the factory) to provide hotter spark at low rpm - more suitable for trials. Whether that was true or just a cover in an attempt to justify the cheaper cost I don't know.

  8. I'm confused about the Cotton trials models available in early-mid60's.

Am I right that there was the Trials model, the Trials Special model (with distinctly different frame) & the Trials Starmaker model?

If so, was the Starmaker model just the Trials Special with a Starmaker engine?

Then in later 60s, there was the Trials 37A model???
