  1. Ahh yes I know puckeridge I'm only down the road in Hoddesdon. I've joined the Hemel Hempstead club and I'm soon going to join to ride over poles wood which is near

Onger/Brentwood only 30 mins from me. I only started mid part of last year so still

    Loads to learn.

    Andy

Small world! I know Hoddesdon well, used to live in Lord Street for a few months. I also work the Ongar/Brentwood area, right in to Rainham.

Not sure where to join really, I'm keen to get going though. I plan to carry out a bit of local 'getting used to the bike' at a friends farm. I need to get my sons TY80 sorted first, so he can join me. Not been on a bike for years!

  2. I'm told mine is a mark 2 ?

Is yours single tank/seat ? The red ones I've seen have been separate tank/seat ?

Lovely bikes - and frames are a work of art

    cheers

    john

Yes, single tank/seat. What age do you think? I guess we better move this back to the Yamaha section of the forum. I was just trying to reach the masses in this section, as there must be a 2.50 - 20 out there somewhere.

  3. Hi there

as promised on a previous post, I've checked my son's whitehawk front tyre

It is almost new (unused) but there are some sidewall cracks so I guess it may have been NOS st some point, or someone had one lying around.

    It's a Pirelli 20 - 2.5, marked 'Mototrial' - also says 'US market only'

    hopefully this will help !

    cheers

    John

Hi John, thanks for the reply. I too have a Pirelli, 2.50 - 20 on the front. Tread good, but side walls falling apart, badly falling apart. It must be due to age.

I'll keep looking, the Kempton Park jumble is on the 28th, I've got my fingers crossed that one will be there. I really dont want to go 19" or 21".

  4. Hi

As the above reply, on my son's the kickstart folds up - then has a full stroke to kick

    cheers

    John

Thanks for the replies. The foot peg does fold up, but the kick starter hits the peg mounting bracket, which is fixed. I will have to investigate further. I will post some photos if I get the hang of it.

    Thanks again, its apreicated

  5. Hi all, I've tried searching for the answer, but didn't find much, so have started a new topic.

On my sons TY 80 Whitehawk, the kick start hits the peg before it has had much of a chance to turn the engine over. Is this right? Luckily it starts second kick, but I don't like that it bashes the peg very hard every time you kick it. Should it have a cranked starter, one that has the swivel at the bottom of the lever, so when you pull the starter out to kick it over, it misses the peg altogether?

    Hope that makes sense...

Is there an aftermarket kick starter that does away with my problem?

  6. Hi there

I bought a Whitehawk 80 a month or so back (see the post on this forum for 'whitehawk shocks')

Great bike, and the next step for my son who is currently blitzing all the new bikes on his TY80 !!

Out of interest from you Whitehawk guru's out there, is it a Mark 3 ??

Any idea on vintage of the bike ! ??

    http://s1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc510/johnbarnett1/?action=view&current=whitehawk1.jpg

It has a 20" front wheel with luckily a virtually brand new tyre. The bike is currently at my dads (too many bikes, not enough space !) so I'll have a look for the make of the tyre - might be a help

    cheers

    John

    Hi John,

the link didn't work for me, so can't see your sons bike. It would be nice to see, as I'm desperate to find out what I have bought my son. There seems to be very little on the net when you search for 'whitehawk'.

I would be very grateful for the make of your front tyre, i'm struggling to find a replacement.

    Many thanks

  7. Dan, the engine # will tell you the date Yamaha made the engine, not much help in the year it became a Whitehawk. I have one of the very first ones Mick made and got it in 1981. Have the same problem finding a 250X20 tire, if you find a place to get them let me know.

Thanks for the info. I had guessed that the whitehawk conversion came much later. I will hazzard a guess that the whitehawk is much later that the 1975 engine, probably late 80's. All the plastics are red and most I've seen have been white.

I am now determined to track down a front tyre, that or change the front wheel to a 19".

  8. Hello to all....

after many years of restoring and driving Series Land Rovers, I have reduced my ownership to one only and have spent most of the raised funds on buying a BSA C15 for me and a TY80 Whitehawk for my son. I plan to get out and about and teach my son how to ride, although its been 20 years since I last had a trials bike!

Merry Christmas and a happy new year :kerstsmiley:

    Dan

  9. Hi there, i'm new to this forum malarky, so if I've posted this in the wrong place, I apologise now.

I have bought my son a TY80 Whitehawk that needs a few bits and bobs done before we go out and learn gears on his first ride.

I have been trying to locate a 250-20 front tyre, but no one seem to be selling them. Any ideas where I can get them from? Everything seems to be 19 inch, or 21. My searching for 20 inch throws up mountain bike tyres!

Also, how do I date the bike? The engine number is 451-107284, but I cant find the frame number as yet. Its not stamped on the headstock, so hope to find it once I get the tank off?

    Cheers,

    Dan
