  1. Ossas recommendation is 140/1 ;-) I think my bike is ok, because I know three Ossa bikes and all have problem with totaly black piston and short life time of spark plugs... I think there is behavior. :-( But its off topic.

You guys must have a different version of the manual to me, I have a 2011 and 2012 book and both say 110:1

  2. My father and I had more trouble starting ours than probably anyone on here. Once we got the 12v battery packs hooked up we've been happy as larry.

Have ridden everything else on the market and the only other bike I really like is the Montesa. I'm sure I'd get used to any of the others but the Ossa just feel really nice to me soon as I jumped on it.

  3. Thanks Deon, I will be in Mackay next week with work so will see if I can pick some up.

If you want to try one of our bikes whlie you are here let me know. Just bring your boots and helmet. I wouldn't mind a look at the 2013 if you can fit it in the car!!

  4. Hi "old ozzie"

I have a 2012 thats dragged the clutch since new,has 34hrs on it now and still has what I think "considerable clutch drag",I am running GRO 75wt,have also bled the clutch. If I take all the freeplay out of the lever and have everthing adjusted right up its not to bad,not great but and really very "on/off"as well ! A mate runs Nulon 75wt transmission oil in his Ossa (AVAILABLE AT "SUPERCHEAP") comes in a litre bottle and is a lot cheaper than GRO which can be hard to find at times. Not sure what to do with mine, has been changed several times,I will buy some Nulon next and give that a shot.

I am running a 12 volt "start system" on mine, just a NMH battery pack which is available for under $10 on ebay plus a switch, they can be a ******* without them as you have seen on the forum.

What if you leave a little free-play but adjust the lever out a bit further so it compresses the clutch a little more?

We have two 2012's and with the GRO 75w and regular oil changes, the clutches are to my liking and if we get any drag its only for the first couple of minutes until warm.

  5. Hey Deon, where do you get your GRO 75w from, I am having a little difficulty finding it here in Oz? Btw, have just come home after working away for ten days and the Ossa started 4th kick instead of 4 hours, lol. The 9v set up is well worth it.

Give Phil Wilson a call: http://www.norside.com.au/

He keeps it in stock for me usually so should be able to post you some.

  6. From new I only had clutch drag from cold, but I got rid of that by changing to GRO 75w oil :D its not the cheapest but in my opinion its the best.

Definitely run the GRO 75w. We tested a few different oils and it was definitely the best. You still get a little cold drag but its gone once the bike is warm.

Ossaman26 - have you played with the clutch lever adjustment to cure your drag? Also I presume your oil is fresh, once the oil gets a bit old in our bikes we find the clutch will start to drag. You need to do the first 3-4 oil changes every maybe 5hrs, after that the oil stays heaps cleaner and you can stretch out the intervals more if you wish.

  7. Come on

The service in Australia is not that bad, the new 2013 models have only just arrived in Australia within the last 2 weeks, I just went and had a look, 25 bikes. It is a bloody long way by ship from Spain to Australia., and yes sometimes the dealer gets caught out with parts, but complainig that he has no 2013 parts to upgrade the 2012 bike is a bit unfair.

Yes complain if you get poor service, but did you offer to pay airfreight and have the upgrade parts delivered and not wait until the next shipment arrives.

I am not defending importers/distributors but give them a break, they make bugger all out of trials bikes, with it being such a small market and most do it to the best of their financial ability.

I get enough excuses from the importer, I don't think he needs anyone else making up more for him. In a competitive industry he'd be out of business, no question about it.

If the service in Australia is THAT bad than send an email to OSSA, pretty sure they'd like to know if you can't even get hold of a rear mudguard...

I get my parts from my dealer in Sweden within a few days.

Pretty pointless since Ossa just keeps referring me back to the importer who at the time of enquiry didn't have the parts.

  9. the Lithium 12v must incorporate the capacitor unit, if the battery is dead the fan will not run properly. You should have the capacitor installed. since they have the capacitor on the 2013 then I would recommend the 9v system and it is far less expensive. No issue with flooding from over pressure from the fuel pump. See here for the connection diagram, takes about 15 minute to install. The 12 V does work, 9v in my opinion is far better.

Further to this, the 2013 bike have a higher compression therefore all the more reason to have 9v easy start.

    Hope this helps>>>

For me another reason to stick with the 12v solution was that the bikes are harder to stall at low rpm, whatever works for you though. The 9v system certainly would be less effort required to hook it up if you were starting from scratch but I don't think it has all the same benefits.

We find there is no flooding issue with the 12v setup as long as you get the kick starter to the top of the stroke before turning on the battery. If you don't do this there is a very small risk of flooding. If you do flood the bike, simply hold it wide open throttle and it will start within 4 kicks in my experience.

  10. Just picked up my 2013 Ossa 280i .. got it to start after the first 10 kicks and putted around for 15 minutes ... after that continued to fight with it for 4 hours and still wont start...... my foots bruised and broken and it would be really nice if my beautiful ornamint would turn into a bike sometime soon.

Replace the capacitor behind the front headlight with a 12v re-chargeable battery as mentioned in this thread and you'll be happy as larry. Its easy to make if you can't get one from your dealer.

We had all the same issues, tried special fuel/oil mixtures, special plugs, got other people to "kick it properly" and all the other BS spun to me from the dealer. Battery on, problem gone.

  11. Dealer stock is 8 weeks away - usually if they tell me something is 8 weeks away its probably more like 12 weeks or sometimes the parts just don't show up, ever.

I'd rather order from someone had actually had one on hand.

  12. Anyone know if they will release a retrofit upgrade for the air filter?

Dad did ours today and I avoided him as there was a lot of cursing, fortunately we don't ride in very dusty conditions and the air box is so well sealed that the filter doesn't need regular cleaning.

  13. jsp - have you tried the 12v battery? Our bikes pretty much never take more than 2-kicks since fitting the 12v battery and prior to this they were a NIGHTMARE to start. The only caution is we always get the kick starter to the top of the stroke before turning on the battery switch. If you don't do this, every once and a while you might flood the bike. If you do flood it, hold it WOT and it should start within 4 kids.

  14. Since we get the starter to the top of the stroke before turning the 12v battery on we havn't had another flooding problem. Prior to doing this we've flooded both bikes once each. I havn't had to manually or re-charge either of our batteries.

  15. The filter might take some time to get out and re-fit but the air-box is so well sealed unless you ride in seriously dusty conditions all the time it might be a twice a year job, its not a big deal...

The new rear guard looks awesome! Pitty I bought spares of the old type...
