  1. Many thanks, bike has a regulator rectifier, just wondered if i could introduce a battery to make lights and indicators more stable. Thanks for help.
  2. I want to fit a 12v battery to my sherco hrd 50. Mainly because the indicators and lights are quite dim on tickover. This can be scary when waiting at road junctions. The bike is the 2003 sm and at present does not have a battery or charging circuit. Any help would be much appreciated .Thankyou.
  3. Hi Whats the best way to test the CDI unit and the rectifier on a 2003 Sherco HRD 50SM? Ps. runs then stops on it's own accord, any clues as to what it might be?
  4. Hi Dannyboy, how's the hrd,?
  5. I too have a sherco HRD 50, a great bike -- now, these are well balanced and a joy to ride, ours is a 2003 model which was badly abused by previous owners. MRS are a good source for genuine parts and sound advice, i have always found them easy to deal with and the parts always arrive complete and as ordered. There are lots of after market bits around so be careful. The minarelli AM6 engine is great and very responsive, big bore kits do add a lot of extra pressure to the crank case and bearings so make sure the mix is done with a top quality 2 stroke oil, we find castrol makes a great improvement to smooth running, however we have the auto lube working with a minor mod to ensure good lubrication at all times. No need to over rev the little engine, this just ruins it! Don't forget to put antifreeze in the radiator, and keep the gearbox oil clean, we replace every 500 miles. Happy Days. Oh if you have indicators could you tell me how they are fitted because our indicators have caused me nightmares, thanks.

    Welding On Bike

Having been a welder for 28 years I would recommend disconnecting all wires coming from magneto, generator and battery. Do make sure the wiring is totally isolated. Remove fuel tank and plug pipe to carb. Remember when welding sparks can travel so keep surrounding area clear, dampen floor with water, and if possible get someone to stay nearby. Take care cleaning the area to be welded, and don't rush. Good luck.
  7. Thanks copemech, I will forever hold you in high regard, you have helped, where others have not. It would be great if there was an experienced electronics engineer could be specific. The TNT replacement magneto has 2 yellow wires coming from it I wonder if this is from another winding which can be rectified to dc for indies and relay. I would ask all you sherco owners to check under your fuel tank and help but I guess you've got better things to do. Thankyou copemech.
  8. Thanks for the reply copemech, Yes this would be a good idea, a 9v rechargable system running off ac through regulator and then a rectifier to convert to dc to charge the 9v battery. A simpler way has been partly explained to me but i still need to know the type of components that i need to purchase. So can anyone tell me what type of rectifier ie make etc, and capacitor. Or a suitable flasher relay, or any other way to make the indies brighter, i mean hey they work ok on the Aprilia, Gilera, Honda, Yamaha etc so why dont hey work ok on my poor Sherco Hrd 50 2003. Electrics are great if you want a headache! Is there a special type of relay? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Hello all, Just finished rebuilding a rather sorry Sherco HRD 50 2003, badly treated by previous owners. Sorted most usual mechanical problems but got bitten by the electrics. The poor bike had the wiring fried and everything was a bit jumbled up when we bought it - hence the necessity for the new magneto, woodruff key, side cover etc. The system is AC as there is no battery. All lights now working ok, headlights, dip, stop and tail, all instrument lights work too (this was a minor miracle), the horn works fine also - that pleased the MOT man! The LED Indicators will flash good on fairly low revs, but fade badly when all other thing electrical are working. I have been told to fit a rectifier, and capacitor in the system, but i cant find anyone to tell me what type of rectifier or capacitor. The regulator kicks out 9v on tickover the indicator relay kicks out 5-9volts. With a few revs 12 v is attained without problem. Please could someone give me some sound advice.
