  1. I've still not got round to do any work on my poor scorpa. Disc floats still seized on, headstock bearings. God knows what else.

    I do change the oil frequently though with ATF. The clutch is stuck on for about 5 mins but after it's warm and a few flicks it unlocks and works if not a little snatchy. To prevent this should I strap the clutch up when not in use?

  2. Thanks for all the replies! well i cannot convince him to get into it, i would have jumped at it when i was his age!

    I have lots of decent places to use something like that round near where i live but wouldnt risk using the KTM or the Scorpa anymore. Has any adult got one of these as a toy? If i get this new job i might treat myself to one...

  3. Hi,

    Here is my situation. Ive got a KTM exc 200 and a scorpa sy250 for myself and have until recently enjoyed the odd play in the woods on the scorpa. My start in trials was predominantly to make me a better enduro rider but i dont get enough time to do or be good at either so im fiarly basic levels of both.

    My son (7 yo) has a 50 cc quad bike that he is growing out of and doesnt have much interest in anymore. I had planned to get him a 50cc moto but then the local coucil put a big sign in the woods on ANY type of motorcycle will be conviscated. This is due to more scrotey kids on mx bikes im sure but i aint taking the risk. So im thinking, kill two birds with one stone and get an oset 20 that we both can use in the woods. Im pushing 90kg so according to the manaul im not allowed but every shop i speak to says adults are fine on them. im guessing the run time with me on it is going to be about 30 mins but im only going to be near the house so thats not a problem.

    If we both can use it then what should i look out for as a seccond hand buy?

  4. This is mine (pic from the advert when i bought it). The paint on the plastics and tank is pretty dire, its bubbling and peeling on the tank. A viynl wrap guy saig he could try to cover it with a breathable vinyl but tbh i have more important things to spend the money on this bike. i called up a scorpa importer arround here to order some of the desperate bits like the RJ bearing and found that he had been on this bike. He knew this becuase he fitted an inline thermostat on one of the hoses which was a prototype that he had 6 of at a trials meeting.

    Im going to have to get over to Bumpy or somewhere for some proper training and ride a nice example of a trials bike. I briefly had a beta techno which felt heavy to move about on but im sure its 100% technique!

    Ive only used the Scorpa a few times, mostly in the woods behind the house but when i do get some spanner time on it i want to;

    1. change the headstock bearings. Aparently they need to be pressed out and are a pain.

    2. fix the front disc

    3. send off the front and rear shock for a service ( the front shock is always hissing out of the top after use...... not sure if thats normal)

    4. swing arm bearings

    5. new chain and sprockets

    6. plastics. decals

    On another note, have you found that the clutch on yours is sticky until the engine is warm. On mine, the first gear selection is usually a stall which free's up the clutch or leave it running until its warm and working the lever. Even after that, the operation of the clutch feels quite snappy, on or off if you get what i mean. Maybe im too used to my KTM.

    I only really bought the bike to become a more confident enduro rider. Turns out im no good at either and dont really get the saddle time to change that but the time i do have on both bikes i enjoy.

  5. Ive bought a pretty tatty looking 2004. Underneath i think someone had looked after it but the last owner ran the bearings down on almost everything. Ive replaced the rose joint bearing but have yet to do the swingarm, headstock and wheel bearings. Im told the headstock bearings are a PITA. I also tried to change the rubber bushings on the floating disc but knackered the head on the allen bolt.

    If anyone has any part numbers for stuff that i can get cheaper elsewhere, please let me know

  6. Someone has butchered a paint job on the scorpa I bought. It's the wrong colour and its all cracked on the tank with expanding. I was going to leave it but it looks pants. How is it best to start stripping the crap off and painting it again. I've just seen a video of Rit dye but that seems a little restrictive.

    Its a 2003 scorpa sy250. Also, the mud guard has developed a fracture just after the bolt hole. I dont think it helped being on the back of the DC bike rack and the wind pulling up on the guard, in future i will remove the mud guard when its on the rack. if i drill holes either side of the crack and use small cable ties will that do for now?   7. Can someone tell me what the deal is with this rear shock rose joint thingy? I got the bolt out, propped up the back wheel but it seems there is a sleeve or spacers still in there. How does it come apart?

    Mission failed on the front disc bobbins too, I don't have a huge Allen key to fit the front axle.....

  8. Hi,

    Ive only just got into trials really but im changing from a 96 Beta Techno to a 2003 Scorpa 250. I bought it today and had trouble dating it from the low res pics (http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/45172-can-someone-date-this-bike/). Im almost sure its a 2003 but i think its led a hard life. Someone has butchered a paint job onto the plastics. The engine ran ok (bit tappety but i think normal) and the lad admitted it had leaked water into the oil but he said it was the pump seal and it had been replaced. I think the oil still looked a little off so i will drop it and put in some ATF for a little bit. There are a few things that need sorting before i use it really although the wife had a go and nearly put it into a fence! You need to be careful where you leave your fingers when using the clutch :)

    So, to the spaners.

    Rear Shock - there is lots of vertical play in the lower connection to the swing arm. I think its the rose, ball joint thing but if someone can confirm it and share a part number and good place to get it from.

    Thermostat - The lad told me the cooling system was all fine. i ran the bike for a while and the fan didnt start. After the wife pinned it on the field the fan was spinning and went off shortly after. I thought great but then i say that the thermostat on the bottom of the radiator wasnt connected to anything. Whats the deal.....

    Front disc floats - the rubbers that let the front disk float are shot. can they be bought seperatly?

    Winter jobs...... Sort out the plastics. Does anyone have a god method to strip it all back and prep it for a decent paint job?
