  1. Hi all,can anyone help with some info please. My brakes have failed on my citroen c15 diesel 1.9 (2002 model) today I have tried to fix so as to transport my bike on sunday to the local trial but I am stumped !!! following the brakes giving up on me,,i guessed on either calliper seals, brake line leak or master cylinder failure, however there is no leaks from any brake lines, callipers, slave cylinders and I have fitted a new master cylinder, bled the brakes but still no bite and pedal goes to the floor with engine running,i noticed that after pumping the pedal, there is fluid leaking from a thick rubber hose venting from the bulkhead to the floor but do not know what this is venting from but leaks for a short period each time the brakes are pumped, then it stops, any help appreciated, thanks,Steve
  2. Hi, i have 2 ty monos and the 84 model has had the peg mounts cut off and plate steel welded over to enable modern peg mounts to be fitted .At the time of buying the bike,it was also fitted with low renthal bars and i found the riding position odd so i fitted a pair of 6 inch rise renthal bars and this transformed the bike and i ride it better than my previous gasgas 250 and 280 bikes ( i am a 47 year old clubman rider and do not need the power and agility of a modern machine) If you choose to have the footrests altered,be mindful of the rear brake position also as this may need moving/altering also and make sure the footrests are welded at exactly the same height as each other or you will have the bike/yourself out of balance if one is a touch higher than the other. My other ty is an 85 model that has standard pegs. I purchased a pair of steel serrated strips (selling on ebay for aprox £7) these have been manufactured as so to be bent around and welded to your existing ones to make them fatter and a good tip is to have the serrated strip bent to the size and shape of a modern fat peg and then weld the now bent serrated strip directly to the front of the existing peg,you will then have a gap to fill from the rear of the existing peg to the back of the new peg, weld in some steel plate, nuts or whatever to bridge the gap. The pegs now feel like a modern pair and dont make your feet ache and although have not been lowered,do allow you to move your weight back to the rear of the now fatter pegs. Once used to it after getting off of my other bike,i ride just as well but i would say the change in handlebar height was a massive help, if you are tall as i am,you feel less tired and more comfortable but without doubt feel that the combination of lowered pegs and higher bars gives a much better handling bike, hope this helps,Steve
  3. Many thanks for the info.Had a good tip from local bike shop, the ty mono wheel spindle has a drilling in the threaded end visable, simply tap this out and screw in a bolt with a large washer once spindle is fitted to bike, easy and cheap
  4. Fitted a talon disc brake conversion to my 84 ty mono yesterday and all is well but it dawned on me later that the caliper/pads differ from the later standard disc braked mono. The parts although dusty from 10 + years in the shed went straight on and bled up fine but pads are half worn and wondered if still available. Can not see any on the bay, anyone know if talon still make/supply them, many thanks in advance,Steve.
  5. Thank you all for your help, I think the ty80 is a great bike and had one myself to learn on back in 1980 but outgrew it in no time at all,the beta option is a contender but I will have to up the budget should I go that way or thinking of maybe a yam pw80 for an affordable starter bike (or similar) to get her up and running for a couple of months and than switch to a trials machine, again thank you all for responding, great forum !!
  6. Last sunday my daughter came to trials practice, and has not stopped talking about wanting a bike since after watching my friends daughter riding her beta evo 80. It may be a flash in the pan as kids have a change of heart once something else catches their eye so i am going to hold back for a few weeks to see if she is still interested and if so,will look at getting her started, Thinking of an automatic to start and when she has confidence, change to a geared machine but what bike to start on ??? or should i go for a yamaha ty80 and get her riding a geared bike straight off. she is only 9 so a ty would be ideal size and power wise without too much expense but i cant think of an automatic twist and go model as an alternative, budget is aprox £500,any ideas or recommendations please, thanks in advance. T
  7. Hi all, recently picked up some ty mono spares and on inspection found a few threads stripped ( yokes spindle thread and front fork wheel spindle thread. The yoke can be recut and new nut used so not a big problem but i was wondering if anyone has had the same faulty fork leg issue and done a fix to it and if so,how ? helicoiling came to mind but i also thought about a longer spindle with the addition of a nut on the outer fork leg but dont know of one that may fit, also does anyone know the standard main jet size for an 85 ty250 mono, thanks in advance for any advice,Steve.
  8. Good advice from those with experience, i also found that a modern 250 is more than enough,my 250 txt gassers were plenty and more and my 280 too much for me and for some other beginner/novices i guess, now i ride my less poky ty250 better than i ever did the gasgas models, i found i was wary of the power and fighting to control it from time to time so not enjoying the ride as much,if nothing else is should be fun, good luck with your purchase
  9. Hi to all that know me from Frodsham and Gresford recent events. Returned to trials riding in 2011 and attended events for the last 8 months, have moved from riding more modern 250/280 gassers to a couple of ty monos as prefare 70s/80s bikes. Hope to see my riding buddies at tomorrows event (if i can repair rear brake in time ?) Thanks to all that posted very helpful info on the yamaha / mono forum topic ( drum brake improvement ) Steve.
