Youth Trials

  1. Started by Cheneycol,

Looking at bikes for my son but looking for some advice on size. He's coming up 9 and 4' 11". Unsure whether to go big wheel or med wheel 80cc. Not interested in classes or serious competing, more for fun. Thanks.

  2. Started by Mountainbrad,

I want to get my 11 year old son a trials bike. Gas powered is preferred. The riding around here, in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada, is long climbs with steep technical trails. Me and my buddies are less into observed trials, more into climbing steep rock faces and wicked rooty sections. Electric doesn't cut it here. This is obviously not the type of terrain for my beginner son, who has no motorized experience, but is a decent mountain biker. Is a 125 to big?

  3. Hi My son has just turned 14 and wants to start trials. We live newr to Nash Mills site and I have a Beta tr 33 myself. its obviously to big and heavy for him to start and ride properly, and I have been considering a Beta 80 or Beta 125. My son is about 5ft tall and lightly built. Can anyone let me know if the 80cc will suit him or if we should go for a 125? Many thanks Dave

Hello, I've been researching what bike to get my son. He's 9 and has been doing trials lessons at bumpy (birstall uk) and has been riding an Oset kids bike. He wants to get back into the petrol / gears he started on so ive been researching bike options. That research had brought me here and has been helpful to read other parents posts and questions. Ive been thinking the best bet would be a Beta 80cc. However there are not many juniors about. My question is, are the wheels interchangeable? for example. If I found him a senior 80, could I purchase some junior wheels? I feel he'd out grow a junior fast. Thanks

Hi, I am looking for a set of clamps to install the Rockshox boxer forks onto my sons 80, I would pay for a drawing also so I can get a set machined on a CNC mill. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  8. Started by jersey stew,

Anybody ever tried converting the beta 80 to a flatslide carb I.E Keihin, OKO etc??? I think the bike would run cleaner on a better carb, we bought my son his new 2017, its never run brilliantly, often fuelling up and idle seems to vary. I know the smaller cc bikes will suffer with pilot jets blocking up because by nature the hole is very small. However Ive had to clean out the carb much more often than on any other bike and also play with the needle height, mixture screw etc to try and retain a decent smooth running. Surely the top lads on these bikes cant have these issues? Do the likes of Hemmingways have modified bikes? or did we just get the Frida…

There sure are a lot of cheap xr70s etc out there. Anybody go old school and adapt one for a beginner trialer? It seems to me like the venerably TY80 wasn't far from a trail bike. I'm a pretty good welder so I'm not afraid to move pegs or even change neck angle. Just looking to give an 8-year-old a bit of a feeling of a trials bike on a budget. It seems to me a grunty 4 stroke would be a good introduction.

Evening all, Mansfield Maun Motorcycle Club are launching their Midlands Minichamps Junior Trials Championship this year if anybody is interested. Building on the back of the successful Oset trials in 2018 they have decided to run a petrol powered championship in 2019 for riders making the transition to combustion engine machines. All six rounds are situated in Derbyshire and are in close proximity to the M1 corridor with 4 Routes being set out covering all abilities from beginners to advanced. They are also holding a juniors only practice day this weekend at Clipstone for all junior classes of electric and petrols. Thanks.

  13. Hi guys, due to circumstances beyond the clubs control we’ve had to change a couple of venues for the kids championship. Fortunately our first round is now being held just across the road from where we originally planned so the post code remains the same. If anyone is interested in taking part or just helping out please drop me a line. Cheer, BigT MiniChamps Venue Changes.pdf

Is it me or has everyone who bought a 50/80 from 2000 on kept them at the back of the garage once little Johnny has out grown them, or am I looking in the wrong places? I'd happily buy a newish one that there are plenty of kicking about, but can't justify spending 2k plus for it to be used once and him decide he'd rather throw himself round like a ballet dancer playing football, despite his constant nagging for the last month+ to get him one

Looking for a helmet for my daughter to start competing, what an absolute nightmare! Live not to far from a supplier in west cumbria so went to try them on and managed to get one that was a decent fit but had no ACU sticker on. When I enquired about this he said it passed all testing and was not sure if it needed a sticker on or not to compete in trials but did say that they could put one on if needed!! Tried to e-mail ACU with a question regarding this and its been a week and no reply, are they like this? So we are left in a dilemma of do we get the helmet or should we look for something else? Disappointed with the ACU. Can anyone clarify about having the sticker or rec…

I have a 2002 Sherco 50 and the fuel tank is leaking. I tried patching it with epoxy, fiberglass, fuel tank repair, and even plastic weld it and the best I could get was about 3 months use then it starts leaking again, I tried to buy a new gas tank here in the United States but no one has one, So I'm giving a shout to you folks in Europe to see if you can help, PLEASE Does anyone know where I can buy a fuel tank for a 2002 sherco50?

An ACU representative was at the British Sheffield Youth round and made an announcement at the start that the ACU was thinking of changing the ages of the classes. They wanted to change the age classes, and the knock-on from this would be that any youth in the second year of the 'B' Class would be moved up to the 'A' class for 2019. I seem to remember this was to allow a younger youth to move up to 125? I voiced my concerns to the ACU Offical (sorry cannot remember his name) at the time, and told him you will be pushing the riders on to a harder route, this does not seem fair or safe to those riders, who are all expecting to still be riding the 'B' class next y…
