I think the thing with a oset compared to a petrol is you have no clutch to slip when riding in tricky conditions, this would defiantly help with the wheel spin problem feed the power in slowly using clutch and throttle or rev it up and dump the clutch for big stuff.
I watch my son on his oset 20 he has just moved up to that size bike but if I turn the power up so he can wheelie over a log the power is too instant on slow turns. I don't see a way around it,
a 10ah battery with a 10c continuous discharge will be fine, a 20ah 10c would be much better.. the 10ah 10c rating = 100A cont discharge and the 20ah 10c rating = 200A cont discharge.. but all hobbyking batterys that I have played with they all have over spec'ed C ratings and a 10c rated battery normally comes out as a 2c cont rating .. they can peek a lot higher so this is not so much of a problem on a small bike so rule of thumb would be at least 10c cont with 15c peak ( spec'ed) for a 10ah battery, I still have a 10c 16ah 48v battery that i used on a daily basis ( complete charge and discharge cycle every day , 5 days a week for 3 months ) often pulling 80A+ at certain parts of my journey for maybe 30seconds at a time , towards the end of the 3 months the capacity drop did start to become noticeable but I still have them and are now around about only 8ah but this was after around 3.5 years of major abuse. they have around 200 charge/discharge cycles total.
If you ride the bike yourself the extra weight of an adult rider would show the problem up, ride it on the hill have a look at the battery light see if it drops to the bottom light that means its "flat" then goes back to the normal 3 lights when you stop and "reset", could be the battery isn't great and cant handle the load of riding big hills.
Goit the batteries set up and all the wiring / series / parallel adaptors made using the info from here, the battery performs brilliantly, they last ages way longer than the originals when they were new and 6kg lighter.
One more question - What are people doing with the balance wires they are not very strong and I can imagine letting them flap about they wont last long. I would like to see a pic of someones completed battery pack to see how neat or not it looks. Mine currently looks a bit messy!
Sorry to drag up a really old post but I am trying to work out the balance leads for the setup above, is the best solution to buy two parallel balance leads one for each bank of 3 batteries like in the link below or is there a better way?
Not much choice for bigger tyres. What 3.5 tyre are you looking at? People bang on about the acu tyre rules if your going to do any events, never taken my lad to one so not sure whats what with the rules.
Something that has become very popular at enduro is a shorter than normal race and a practice after. This could be done at trials, 2 laps "real trial" with a time limit of say 2 hours then a 2 hour practice to try any section you like, practice your favourite section from your own route, try some harder ones, whatever you fancy, no scores taken just have a play. Its a good way of getting the riders who only like practice to do a proper event. There are loads of people out practicing every week who never do Trials.
I went and took my little lad along we enjoyed it I must admit I would have preferred to see more mud as to me uk trials = Mud, world round should have terrain that matches the country its held in.
I don't know a lot about these batteries, read about them on ebike forums they prefer them over the hobby king batteries. I am going to get a decent battery before summer for my lads 36v oset hobby king have been out of stock for my ideal batteries fir ages so ive been looking for alternatives.
Has anyone made a battery out of something like this? Prices seem to be coming down and they are more popular on ebikes than hobby king model batteries.
Understand what your saying, could be a good idea. seems they are getting less and less in stock so I am hoping that means a shipment is coming and they will have the "ideal" batteries in stock before spring, at the moment the woods are too wet for a little bike so he just wants to blast around the fields so they weight isn't a issue as much as it will be when it dry's out and we can try the rougher stuff again.
My lad is a tall 4 year old we borrowed a 12.5 for him to learn on but as you can see from your lads feet they angle down to get caught on every bump he rode over he kept hurting his ankles. If you can borrow the 12.5 for a few practice rides to gain confidence then buy a 16. the only down side could be the extra weight of the 16.
or you could go down the lipo route ?.. a bit cheaper, lighter, smaller, higher capacity.
unfortunately not, Hertfordshire!!!!!!!!
Im looking at anything that's uk or Europe stock to avoid import tax.
My lad is very tall for his age so I got him a 16 on his 4th birthday as he was far to big for the 12.5 we borrowed. The extra size and weight has knocked his confidence so I had planned to buy 6 of the batteries I linked and run 3 in series for now and swap them for the other set if he want to ride more to keep the weight down then parallel the two sets at a later date when his a bit stronger to increase the ride time without messing about swapping batteries part way through the day.
After reading this thread I had decided what to buy to make a oset 36v battery but all the recommended stuff seems to be out of stock on hobby king, left it 6 weeks hoping it would come back into stock but no luck, emailed them and no eta either.
I did plan on using 3 of these amd the bms posted earlier in this thread.
My friend has a 315 with the front grimeca brake and one of the pistons is seized in the caliper.
Can someone tell me were I can get spares from? All the places are we have called are out of stock and some even say they spare parts are no longer avalable!
